Scripts - Episode 3122

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY and GYPSY are there.

SALLY

Do you really want to go and have your baby in strange hospital without your friends around, without me.

GYPSY

No, but what else am I supposed to do.

SALLY

Stay here. Have the baby just like you planned. Who cares if everybody in Summer Bay knows? I know it seems scary, but it won’t be so scary, but it won’t be so bad. I promise. A few people are going to be upset for a while, but they’ll get over it and you’re going to have Will now for extra support. There’s no way he won’t want to be part of the babies life now that he knows.

GYPSY

There is no way that he will. I can promise you that.

SALLY

How do you know?

GYPSY

Because I’ve never seen him so angry. He hates me, he wants nothing to do with me

SALLY

He doesn’t hate you. It’s just a shock, that’s all. Once he gets used to the idea, he’ll come around, you’ll see.

GYPSY

You didn’t see his face.

SALLY

Yeah, but I know Will. Whatever he’s feeling now, he’s going to get over it and he’s going to want to be involved. You’ve got to give him that chance. Please Gypsy, don’t do anything you might regret

THE PATTERSON HOUSE

CHRIS watches TV. ALEX walks in.

CHRIS

Hey. How are you bro?

ALEX

Good. I’ve got a bone to pick with you, though, Chris.

CHRIS

Ay.

ALEX

Why did you give the car to Vinnie and Leah when you knew how much I loved that car? I’ve always loved the car.

CHRIS

Because they need and you don’t.

ALEX

So hang on, they’ve got a free car, you’ve got a free car, when do I get my free car?

CHRIS

Enough of your moaning, all right. You’ve got your van.

ALEX

All right, my van, yes. How am I supposed pick up chicks in a van?

CHRIS

So that is what this is all about.

ALEX

What else?

CHRIS

I thought you said the pickings were pretty slim around here anyway.

ALEX

Well that’s exactly my point. That’s why I need the vehicle Chris. To stack the odds.

CHRIS

What about that chick that used to live here, Gypsy?

ALEX

Yeah, what about her?

CHRIS

Well is she still around?

ALEX

Yeah.

CHRIS

Seeing anyone?

ALEX

No, but.

CHRIS

But, what? What?

ALEX

Nothing.

CHRIS

So she’s available?

ALEX

Yeah, as far as I know. She works at the drop-in centre. I can point you in right direction if you’re interested.

CHRIS

Yeah, mate, that would be great. Hey, I told Vinnie I’d get the wheel alignment fixed on the car before I hand it over. If you want, you can drop it in for me, take it for a ride first.

ALEX

Really.

CHRIS

Yeah.

ALEX

Aw, thanks mate.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

DANI and BRODIE are in bed. An alarm clock goes off and DANI puts it off. Another alarm clock goes off.

BRODIE

The window sill.

DANI gets out of bed and turns the alarm clock off.

DANI

It’s not even light yet.

THE WHARF

ALF is carrying boxes down to the wharf. DANI comes running down.

ALF

Ah, there you are. I thought you weren’t going to turn up.

DANI

I said I’d be here, didn’t I?

ALF

Yeah, you did and now that you’re here you might as well make yourself useful, eh. This boats just came out of dry-dock and all this stuff got to be put on board. There’s a list of where everything goes.

DANI

You want me to move all this?

ALF

Yeah.

DANI

Well, don’t we have a forklift or a trolley or something?

ALF

You’re kidding, aren’t you? That’s what you’re hands are for. So get a wriggle on and I’ll come back later and see how you’re getting on.

DANI

Where are you going?

ALF

To the diner for breakfast.

DANI

Aren’t you going to help me?

ALF

No, you’re the deckhand. That’s your job. See you later.

The sun has now risen. DANI is trying to lift a box. RHYS walks up to DANI.

RHYS

Ahoy, there shipmate. How’s it going?

DANI

Terrible. I have moved everything I can onto the boat and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with these boxes. They weigh a ton.

RHYS

Would you like a hand?

DANI

No thanks.

RHYS

Sure.

DANI

It is cheating if you help me. I have to do on my own.

RHYS

Em, how do you plan to do that?

DANI

I have no idea.

RHYS

Would it be cheating if I offered a suggestion?

DANI

Yes. What is your suggestion?

RHYS

Did you think about opening the boxes?

DANI

You’re a genius.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

FLYNN and GYPSY are in the kitchen.

GYPSY

Kettle’s boiled.

FLYNN

Ah, thanks. Do you know if Sally’s going to be in today?

GYPSY

Sal, why?

FLYNN

Oh, just something I want to talk to her about.

GYPSY

Em, this wouldn’t have anything to do with a near kiss, would it?  She told me. A way to make a girl feel wanted Flynn.

FLYNN

Aw, that’s exactly what I wanted to avoid.

GYPSY

No wonder you gave up the army. You’re strategy skills suck.

FLYNN

All right, I’ve really stuffed it up.

GYPSY

Well, it depends what you want.

FLYNN

Whatever else you might want to think I’m not playing games.

GYPSY

Look, Sal is a very, very good friend of mine and well she’d kill me if she knew I was telling you this, but over the past few years, em, she hasn’t exactly had a whole lot of luck with men and it hasn’t been great for her confidence. The last thing she needs right now is someone else coming in and messing with her head.

FLYNN

Well, it’s not exactly my intention.

GYPSY

Well, here is a little piece of advice. Work out what you want and do it quick smart because she’s not going hang around waiting for you to get your act together.

THE BLAXLAND

DANI sits reading a fishing magazine. ALF walks down to the boat.

ALF

What’s happened to the supplies?

DANI

I stowed them away like you like you told me.

ALF

What, even the big boxes?

DANI

All of them.

ALF

Yeah. Well, if that’s the case I suppose we might as well take her out for a test run, eh. What do you reckon?

DANI

Great.

ALF

Good, I wouldn’t mind doing a bit of fishing and it wouldn’t hurt you to test you sea legs.

DANI

Can’t wait.

ALF

Let’s hope you’ve got a stronger stomach than Tom Nash.

THE DROP-IN CENTRE

GYPSY is in the office. CHRIS walks in.

CHRIS

Hey, Gypsy. Remember me?

GYPSY

Chris. How are you doing?

CHRIS

Yeah, good. Hey listen, I’m going to be in town for a few.

GYPSY turns around and CHRIS sees she is pregnant.

CHRIS

Well nobody said. I didn’t. Congratulations.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

JUDE, SEB, KIRSTY, FLYNN and NOAH are there. SALLY walks in.

SALLY

Hi guys. Sorry, I’m late. I didn’t know we were going to have an audience today.

JUDE

Well, you better get used to it. It’s going to be a much bigger audience at the fundraiser.

KIRSTY

Yeah, I know. Everyone from school’s coming, Sally.

SALLY

Oh, great.

NOAH

Yeah, well it’s too late to pike now. The drop-in centre’s counting on us.

JUDE

Hey, look at it this way. It would be great for you street cred with the kids at school and it’s for a good cause.

SEB

We have to do something to make it look good. Sal, do you reckon you can learn some dance moves.

KIRSTY

Yeah, yeah, like Britney Spears or something. Don’t you guys reckon that will look cool.

JUDE

Hey, why don’t you guys get back to the management stuff and leave us to it.

SEB

What do you want me to do?

JUDE

Well source those pub gigs you’ve been promising us.

SEB

OK, let’s go.

SEB and KIRSTY leave.

NOAH

Are you serious?

JUDE

No, let him feel like he’s being useful. All right, now, that we’re all here, let make some noise. Lets start with my forty five. You ready, one, two.

The band starts to play.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

CHRIS and GYPSY sit at a table in the diner.

CHRIS

Must think I’m pretty rude, uh.

GYPSY

Yeah, anyone would think you’d never seen a pregnant girl before.

CHRIS

You’re pregnant. I just thought you’d had to many doughnuts. Anyway, just so you know, it’s not what you think?

GYPSY

What isn’t?

CHRIS

Well, me reacting like that. It wasn’t about you, it just made me think of someone, that’s all.

GYPSY

Who?

CHRIS

Aw, this girl I used to know, my girlfriend.

GYPSY

Oh, I didn’t know.

CHRIS

Oh, she’s not my girlfriend, anymore. This was a couple of years ago. You don’t want to here my soppy story.

GYPSY

Yeah, I do, I love a good soppy story.

CHRIS

Well, we had been going out for a while and I really liked her and I thought things were getting pretty serious between us. Anyway she took off for a few days and I couldn’t work out why. I kept calling and ringing and ringing, but her parents were really sniffy towards me. I still couldn’t work out why and then when she finally turned up it turns out she was pregnant only she wasn’t anymore. Anyway things between were never really the same again and eventually we broke up.

GYPSY

Well, pregnancy is a very hard thing to get over. One way or another.

CHRIS

Well, I guess I couldn’t handle the fact that she didn’t tell me.

GYPSY

Maybe, she was scared about how you were going to react.

CHRIS

How would she? Look at me, I’m a bug pussycat. I mean, she should have at least asked me what I thought, shouldn’t she? It was half my responsibility too.

GYPSY

Yeah, true.

CHRIS

You and the father, you’re not together any more?

GYPSY

No.

CHRIS

Does he know about the baby?

GYPSY

He knows.

CHRIS

I could have been a good dad, I reckon. I mean, sure it wouldn’t have turned out the way I thought, but it would have been good, you know. The father of your kids a lucky guy. At least he’s going to have the chance to find out.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

SEB is on the phone in the hall.

SEB

Yes. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

KIRSTY and BRODIE are at the table. KIRSTY holds a banner.

KIRSTY

What’s a slave auction?

BRODIE

Well, we get all the guys from Summer Bay to volunteer to be slaves and then we auction them and however wins, gets to boss them around for a whole day.

KIRSTY

Aw, OK.

RHYS is in the kitchen.

KIRSTY

Are you going to go in it dad?

RHYS

Aw, don’t know how it would be different from a normal day.

KIRSTY

You’re right. You’re so downtrodden.

BRODIE

Are you going to let Seb go in it?

KIRSTY

So, he has to do everything I say for a whole day?

BRODIE

Yep.

KIRSTY

Interesting.

RHYS

Better make sure you make the highest bid otherwise you never know how might get their grubby hands on him.

SEB walks in.

RHYS

Hey, how did you go?

SEB

I did it. I got them the gig at the pub.

KIRSTY

You’re kidding.

SEB

No, no, they’re even talking about putting them on as the headline act if the demo is good enough.

RHYS

Mate, you’ve obviously got the gift of the gab. You never know, you might turn out to be the next Brian Epstein.

SEB

Who?

RHYS

He managed a band from the early Neolithic period called The Beatles. Maybe you’ve heard of them.

KIRSTY

Hey, is Dani back yet?

BRODIE

Ah, not yet.

KIRSTY

I wonder how she’s going. Alf’s probably thrown her overboard by now

THE BLAXLAND

DANI and ALF are onboard.

ALF

Well just don’t stand there dreaming girlie. Sort that fish gut out, eh. We can keep some of it for bait.

There’s container’s under the sink.

DANI

All right.

DANI goes and gets a container.

ALF

Well go on. Get on with it. It’s not going to bite you. Did Will ever tell you about the time I got him to scrub down the deck. There was all this dry fish gut up there. I tell you what, that taught him a lesson quick smart. Love, I tell you what he was there for hours.

ALF drops a bit of fish gut on DANI’S ankle.

ALF

Oh, oh, geez, sorry love.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

SALLY is singing and JUDE, FLYNN and NOAH are playing there instruments.

SALLY

I’m feeling it right. He’s come down and it’s feels all right.

There is a banging on the ceiling. The band stops playing.

NOAH

I guess Mrs Adams is home.

JUDE

I thought today was her bingo day.

NOAH

I guess she got home early.

FLYNN

I guess it will be another day then.

SEB walks in.

SEB

Hey guys. Guess what? I got you a gig.

JUDE

What?

SEB

Yeah, I’m serious. You guys are playing at The Oriental and you’re the headline act and I came up with a name for you.

JUDE

Which is?

SEB

Indecision.

JUDE

Geez, wish I’d thought of that.

NOAH

Well, at least it fits.

JUDE

So, when’s the gig?

SEB

In two weeks.

SALLY

Oh, excuse me.

SALLY leaves.

SEB

What’s up with her?

JUDE

Ah, nerves, excitement, don’t worry about it. Hey, why don’t you give Noah a hand taking up the drum kit?

SEB

Em, I’m the manager, not the roadie.

JUDE

Hey, do you want remain being the manager? Do you want a drink?

FLYNN

Ah, yeah.

JUDE and FLYNN go into the kitchen and get a couple of beers out the fridge.

FLYNN

Just nerves, you reckon.

JUDE

Eh, you’re a doctor. You know about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

FLYNN

Yeah, of course.

JUDE

Yeah, well Sal’s had it ever since the wedding fiasco. They reckon it keeps popping up every time she gets stressed. I guess she was more worried about this whole band thing than I ever imagined.

THE PATTERSON HOUSE

ALEX gets something out the fridge. CHRIS walks in.

CHRIS

Thanks for warning me man.

ALEX

About what?

CHRIS

Gypsy.

ALEX

Man, you asked me if she had a boyfriend. She doesn’t have a boyfriend.

CHRIS

You’re lucky I don’t take the keys to the Camara of you.

ALEX

Come on. Where’s your sense of humour Chris?

CHRIS

Hey, where’s your manners? I nearly fell over when I saw Gypsy. How do you think that made her feel? I made a total idiot of myself thanks to you.

ALEX

I’m sure you don’t need my help to do that.

CHRIS

All right, that’s it, keys.

ALEX

What are you talking about? I haven’t even driven Chris.

CHRIS

Keys.

ALEX

It’s not your car. You can’t take the keys off me. They’re not yours man.

CHRIS gets ALEX in a neck grip.

ALEX

Ah, Chris.

CHRIS

Say you’re sorry.

ALEX

You can’t take a joke.

CHRIS

Say you’re sorry or I won’t give you a run in my car.

ALEX

You car. Will you give up? It’s not your car.

CHRIS

Say it.

ALEX

I’m sorry.

CHRIS lets go of ALEX.

ALEX

Big brother has no sense of humour.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

ALEX knocks on the door. NOAH answers it.

NOAH

Hey buddy.

ALEX

Do you want to go for a drive?

NOAH

Where?

ALEX

See, the question shouldn’t be where, the question should be what.

NOAH

Sorry.

ALEX

Noah, For one day and day only I have the keys to the most incredible piece of machinery on the face of the earth, the nineteen seventy-four Chev V8 Camara.

NOAH

Hey, Jude, I’m going out for a while. See you.

ALEX and NOAH leave. JUDE and FLYNN are inside.

FLYNN

Yeah, I better be going to mate. Getting back to work.

JUDE

Hey, look, don’t tell Sal I told you about the OCD thing. I mean, she doesn’t mind her friends knowing, but it’s not something she really wants to amplify.

FLYNN

Yeah mate, you’re secret is safe with me.

JUDE

So, you’re cool with it then.

FLYNN

Well, yeah, of course. I’m actually kind of impressed with the way she’s handling that. That kind of disorder can be really disruptive.

JUDE

Just impressed.

FLYNN

What do you want me to say?

JUDE

Come on, admit it. You really like her.

FLYNN

I’ve got an appointment to be at.

JUDE

You can’t fool me mate. You really care about this girl, don’t you.

FLYNN

Why have you become so interested anyway?

JUDE

Come on, what is the story?

FLYNN

All right, all right. Yeah, I like her, the more I see of her, the more I like her.

JUDE

So, what’s holding you back?

FLYNN

Well it’s complicated.

JUDE

What’s complicated about it? You like her and I’m pretty sure she likes you. You don’t get too many chances in life, mate. Why worry about, you know, what might go wrong?

FLYNN leaves.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SALLY walks in. GYPSY is there.

SALLY

Hey, how’s it going?

GYPSY

Ah, well it’s been an interesting day.

SALLY

Have you thought anymore about what you’re going to do?

GYPSY

Yeah.

SALLY

And.

GYPSY

I’ve decided to stop controlling everything. I’ve always worried about what would happen if the truth came out. Now it’s out I kind of feel relieved.

SALLY

Of course you do.

GYPSY

So no matter what Will or anyone says I’m still having this baby and that’s enough for me to worry about without taking on anymore problems.

SALLY

I am so happy to hear you say that.

GYPSY

If Will wants to be a part of this fine, but I seriously doubt he’s going to jeopardise his relationship with Dani.

SALLY

Well, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. So does this mean you’ve decided to stay.

GYPSY

Yeah.

SALLY

Good.

SALLY and GYPSY cuddle. FLYNN and ZELDA walk in.

FLYNN

As you can see we’ve spent a bit of time doing the place up.

ZELDA

Very cosy.

FLYNN

Yeah cosy. Kids kind of like it.

ZELDA

I can see why.

FLYNN

Zelda, this is Gypsy, administrative assistant and Sally, she’s a volunteer.

ZELDA

Hi.

FLYNN

Ah, Gypsy, do you mind showing Zelda around the centre?

GYPSY

Of course not, come through.

ZELDA and GYPSY leave.

FLYNN

Yeah, Zelda runs that chain of florists up and down the coast.

SALLY

Aw, does she.

FLYNN

Yeah, I was trying to get some sponsorship for the centre. You know, a little bit of advertising

SALLY

Flynn, do I need to know this?

FLYNN

Well, you know, just though you might be interested. Didn’t want you to think that.

SALLY

Think what? That there was something going on between the two of you.

FLYNN

No, it’s just.

SALLY

Well, it makes no difference to me if there is.

FLYNN

I just thought.

SALLY

Yeah, well you thought wrong. Like I said, it makes no difference to me. You’re free to do exactly what you want.

FLYNN

Thank you. I always thought I was.

FLYNN leaves.

A ROAD

ALRX and NOAH are outside the Camara.

ALEX

Now, can you please be careful with my brother’s car. You put a dinghy in it. He’s going to kill, me all right, Noah.

NOAH

Me, you’re the one that almost took out the street sign back there.

They get in the car.

ALEX

I was nowhere near that.

A car draws alongside. In it are two guys, MACCA and DAZZA.

MACCA

Good day ladies, here for the race?

ALEX

What race?

MACCA

Here tomorrow.

ALEX

Do we look stupid or something?

DAZZA

What’s the matter wog boy? Scared you’d lose.

ALEX

What did you call me?

DAZZA

You heard.

ALEX

Listen, I could beat you guys without cracking second gear.

DAZZA

In that piece of woody junk.

NOAH

Look, we’d really like to take you up on that kind offer, but it would be a waste of our valuable time because we’d all know that you would lose. I’ve seen electric wheelchairs with more grunt that heap of junk. Why don’t you just go back to the retirement village?

MACCA

Be here, tomorrow, seven o’clock. We’ll be waiting.

MACCA and DAZZA drive way.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

DANI lies on her bed. BRODIE is there.

DANI

Somebody save me.

BRODIE

I guess that means your not going back tomorrow.

DANI

What? Of course I’m going back. I can’t let Alf Stewart beat me. If Will can do it, I can do it too. Although I’m going to be a bit more sympathetic when he falls asleep in the movies. I am so tired I think I’m going to die.

BRODIE

And is all this really worth it?

DANI

It is to me.

BRODIE

Well, I guess you’re tired then to think about missing Will.

DANI

I could never be that tired.

THE PATTERSON HOUSE

ALEX and NOAH are in the kitchen.

NOAH

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fantastic car, but I still reckon you can go faster on a motorbike. There’s just something about you and the bike taking the bends together.

ALEX

Noah, no one, no one calls me a wog and gets away with it.

NOAH

You’re not still stressing about that are you?

ALEX

Look man, I hate meatheads. I absolutely hate them.

NOAH

Yeah, so do I, but you just said it. They’re meatheads. Who cares what they think?

ALEX

I care. That’s how.

NOAH

You’re not seriously thinking about racing these guys, are you?

ALEX

I’m thinking about grinding their faces into the dirt. That’s what I’m thinking.

NOAH

And is there any point of trying to talk you out of this.

ALEX

No, there’s not.

NOAH

Even though it’s illegal and the guys how do it are morons and it won’t even be your car that you will be racing.

ALEX

I don’t expect you to understand.

NOAH

No, I do understand. I just wanted to make sure we both knew where we stood.

ALEX

So you’re not going to try and stop me.

NOAH

Mate, I’m coming with you. Someone’s got to keep you out of trouble.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY is washing her hands. GYPSY walks in carrying shopping.

GYPSY

Hey. Hey, are you OK?

SALLY

Yeah, I’m fine.

GYPSY

You don’t look fine.

SALLY

I just feel so pathetic worrying about all my little problems when you’ve got so much more to worry about.

GYPSY

Well, I’d much to prefer to worry about yours.

SALLY

Oh, I just made a total fool of myself today and my OCD’s flared up again and I ran away from band practice. Flynn must think I’m a total flake.

GYPSY

I’m sure he’d understand if he even noticed.

SALLY

Yeah, and then when he was with that woman in the drop-in centre. I don’t know what came over me. I must just have popped for no reason. He must think I’m the most sad, stupid, desperate.

GYPSY

Sal, he doesn’t think any of those things.

SALLY

I didn’t want to like him. I wasn’t going to let myself, but I just couldn’t help it. I mean I like my work and I’ve got great friends, I’ve got you. Why shouldn’t that be enough?

GYPSY

Sal, you deserve to be happy.

SALLY

Yeah, well any chance I did have with him, I’ve spoilt it now. The way I’ve been acting he must think I’m nuts.

GYPSY

He doesn’t think that. He really likes you.

SALLY

He doesn’t.

GYPSY

Sal, he does. He told me.

SALLY

Why would he?
