Scripts - Episode 4452

A BEDSIT

KIT and KIM stand at the door.

KIM

Hey, sorry, I know it’s late. I just didn’t want to wake Archie.

KIT

He’s right. What are you doing here?

KIM

Aw, I just wanted to talk to you.

KIT

Rachel rung earlier. She said that if I heard from you to tell you to ring her.

KIM

Well I can’t really do that.

KIT

Why? Is there something wrong? Have you had a fight?

KIM

No, it’s actually worse than that. She slept with Hugh. Can I come in?

KIT

Oh, Kim, I’m so sorry.

KIM

Yeah, thanks.

KIT

I still don’t understand what you’re doing here though.

KIM

I had nowhere else to go.

KIT

I told you I can’t do this anymore. You and Rachel need to sort out your own lives so I can get on with mine. I’m sorry.

KIM

Kit, please

KIT

I left Summer Bay because I can’t be around you anymore. You know that. You shouldn’t be here.

KIM

I just want to talk to you, that’s all.

KIT

I just want to get some sleep. I have two job interviews in the morning.

KIM

Kit, please; just for a little while. Please.

KIT lets KIM into her room.

THE BACHELOR PAD

RACHEL sits on a chair. BRAD walks in.

BRAD

Rach, Sal told me that you and Kim were having problems. Why didn’t you call me?

RACHEL

I couldn’t.

BRAD

Is there anything I can do?

RACHEL shakes her head.

BRAD

Where’s Kim?

RACHEL starts crying.

BRAD

Hey, hey.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

MATILDA and CASSIE walk in.

MATILDA

What is that?

CASSIE

Colleen’s septic system. Don’t ask.

MATILDA

Looks like everyone’s gone to bed, including Ric, but it is after nine I guess.

CASSIE

Yeah, cheese on toast.

MATILDA

Yeah. Hey, em, thanks for the movie. I’m sorry I wasn’t very good company.

CASSIE

Will you stop. I’d be miserable if my sister had just left town.

MATILDA

I’m just worried about her, you know. The place that she’s staying in; it sounds horrible.

SALLY walks in.

CASSIE

Aw, you’re still up.

SALLY

Yeah, I’m just waiting for Brad to get home from Rachel’s. Question is, what are you doing coming in at this hour?

CASSIE

Mattie and I went to see a movie. I called Brad to let him know.

SALLY

What about your maths test tomorrow?

CASSIE

We’ll walk it in, right Mattie?

SALLY

If you don’t fall asleep.

MATILDA

I’m, em, just going to go to the bathroom.

MATILDA walks out.

CASSIE

Come on Sal, it’s not like I haven’t been studying. I’ve been working hard all year.

SALLY

Yeah, until Jules.

CASSIE

I’m putting Jules behind me.

SALLY

I know that and I don’t want to harp on about these things, but I don’t want to see you sabotaging your HSC either.

CASSIE

I won’t. In fact, part of what Mattie and I were talking about tonight was what we were going to do next year. I’m starting realise that I need to be saving up for Uni and getting a bond and all that.

SALLY

You don’t need to fret about those things. If you just stay focused, all of that stuff will fall into place.

CASSIE

OK, no more guys and no more late nights. So, what’s Brad doing over at Rachel’s at this hour.

SALLY

Aw, Kim and Rachel are going through a bit of a rough time.

CASSIE

Is everything OK?

SALLY

Brad just said he won’t be home for a while and Kim hasn’t come home tonight and she’s pretty upset about it.

MATILDA walks in.

MATILDA

Where’s Kim gone?

THE BACHELOR PAD

BRAD and RACHEL are there.

BRAD

So you really did consider leaving Kim for Hugh?

RACHEL

I did. I know. You don’t have to say it. I brought this all on myself.

BRAD

That’s not what I was thinking.

RACHEL

You just looked really disappointed and I don’t blame you.

BRAD

I’m disappointed with myself. I should have been there for you Bloss, but I’ve been so caught up with myself lately. I’m sorry.

RACHEL

Hey, you don’t need to apologise. It’s not as if I wanted to tell you what I’d done. It’s something I never imagined myself ever doing.

A BEDSIT

KIT and KIM are there.

KIT

I didn’t think Rachel was the type to every cheat.

KIM

Yeah, neither do I. Just shows how well I know my own wife.

KIT

At least she was honest with you and you didn’t find out the wrong way.

KIM

Yeah, guilty conscience.

KIT

There’s a lot of that going around.

KIM

We might have crossed the line, but we didn’t make a conscious decision to jump into bed together and lie about it and pretend it didn’t happen, did we?

KIT

Some people might disagree.

KIM

Yeah, Rachel tried to put it in the same category.

KIT

You told her we kissed?

KIM

Yeah, I did.

KIT

Well that explains why she called me. She probably thinks you’re going to run off with me now.

KIM

Kit, how did you end up in this place?

KIT

I left Summer Bay in hurry. This was the only place I could move straight into that didn’t require a bond or a reference and wasn’t seventy bucks a night.

KIM

You can’t stay here. This place is.

KIT

Don’t come here and tell me what I can and can’t do.

KIM

I’m just worried about you, OK. Just look at this place.

KIT

You don’t need to worry. This is just temporary until I can get another job and find somewhere better to stay, though it’s going to be hard with the baby, who I need to feed in two hours. Look, I need to get some sleep.

KIM

Don’t worry about me. I’m just going to crash here on the floor and.

KIT

No, you won’t.

KIM

You’re kicking me out?

KIT

I truly am sorry about what’s happened with you and Rachel, but I can’t stay here.

KIM

What am I going to do? Where am I going to go?

KIT

Last I heard you had a wife and she was at home waiting for you.

KIT opens the door and KIM walks out. KIT shuts the door. KIM stands outside the door. KIT hears KIT not walking away and opens the door. He walks back in. KIT shuts the door.

THE SURF CLUB

RIC, CASSIE and MATILDA are there. MARTHA walk in.

MATILDA

No one’s heard from him.

MARTHA

Poor Rachel.

CASSIE

Yeah, it must have been one hell of a fight.

RIC

Has Kit heard from Kim? Maybe he went to see Archie.

MATILDA

I texted her to ask, but she hasn’t texted back.

RIC

When’s your maths test?

CASSIE

Second period, so I’ll have the rest of the day to kick myself when I get all the answers wrong.

ALF walks in.

RIC

Oh, hello and where have you been?

ALF

I couldn’t get the flamin’ books to balance and then I had to walk here, so I’m having a breather.

RIC

Well don’t get too comfortable because your eye appointment is in fifty minutes.

ALF

I’ve been thinking about that. I’m going to cancel.

RIC

What is putting it off going to achieve? I’ve already told work I’m going to drive you there anyway.

ALF

I know exactly what the flamin’ doctors going to say.

MARTHA

And what if there’s a chance that you’re wrong?

ALF

Stop ganging up on me.

MARTHA

Stop making excuses.

ALF

This is a waste of time.

ALF walks out.

RIC

Oh, this is going to be a fun trip to Yabbie Creek.

RIC walks in. MARTHA walks over to MATILDA and CASSIE.

MARTHA

Hey, do you guys mind looking after the bar for a minute? Make sure no one goes near the till.

MARTHA walks out the bar and walks into RACHEL.

MARTHA

The doors have been locked all morning. I really thought he would have gone home. I guess he just needed to cool off.

RACHEL

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I did the wrong thing. I’m not denying that, but he and Kit are having some sort of tryst behind my back anyway. I think it’s fairly obvious where he spent the night.

A BEDSIT

KIT and KIM lie in bed.

KIM

I kept you awake, didn’t I?

KIT

It’s not like I was going to get much sleep after you bombshell anyway.

KIM

So, what happens now?

KIT

Well, I don’t know about you, but I have a really busy morning. I have two job interviews and appointments at uni waiting for me.

KIT gets out of bed and picks up ARCHIE.

KIT

Hey, look at you, all awake and waiting for me. Let’s get you spruced up before Amy gets here, eh.

KIM

How’s Amy?

KIT

Aw, just a friend. She’ll do some babysitting for me until I can get myself sorted.

KIM

Aw, cancel that. I’ll look after him.

KIT

You can’t stay here Kim.

KIM

Why not? I want to spend some time with my son.

KIT

No, you want to hide from Rachel. Look, she’ll be worried sick about you. You didn’t go home last night and other people already know. Matilda’s messaged me once.

KIM

Look, Kit, I don’t know what to do, OK. I don’t know what to say to Rachel.

KIT

Will you stop being so weak and make a decision please and put Rachel out of her misery and me too for that matter.

KIM

You think I’m being weak.

KIT

Yes, I do.

KIM

OK, maybe I am a little bit, but I don’t care and I’m not ready to go home yet and you may as well let me look after him while I sit here and work out my mixed up, crazy, weak mind of mine. Can I use the bathroom or are you in a hurry?

KIM walks into the bathroom.

KIT

I’m sorry. Am I neglecting you. We’ll get you changed and fed in a minute, OK.

The phone rings. KIT answers it.

KIT

Rachel, hi.

KIT puts ARCHIE down on the bed.

THE BACHELOR PAD

RACHEL is on the phone.

RACHEL

Kim didn’t come home last night. Just be honest with me. Is he with you?

A BEDSIT

KIT is on the phone.

KIT

Look, I know what’s going on now and I know this must be really hard for you, but you have to call Kim, not me.

THE BACHELOR PAD

RACHEL is on the phone.

RACHEL

He is there, isn’t he?

A BEDSIT

KIT is on the phone.

KIT

Rachel, I really don’t want to be the meat in the sandwich here.

THE BACHELOR PAD

RACHEL puts her phone down.

A BEDSIT

KIT puts her phone down.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

BRAD and SALLY are there. CASSIE runs in.

CASSIE

Hello.

SALLY

Hello. Aren’t you meant to be at school?

CASSIE

I have some news I want to tell you.

SALLY

Aw, so the maths exam went well.

CASSIE

Yeah, I reckon I did alright, but that’s not it.

SALLY

Well, don’t keep us in suspense.

CASSIE

OK, well Martha’s offered me a job as a trainee barmaid.

SALLY

Are you kidding? How can you think that’s a good idea?

CASSIE

Well, weren’t you the one that told me to focus on my future.

SALLY

Yeah, but working in a bar wasn’t really what I had in mind.

CASSIE

Yeah, but I can start saving for Uni next year. That’s my future.

SALLY

You have to get in first.

CASSIE

Well I’m doing OK.

SALLY

Yes, you are now, but with the job it’s going to cut into your study time and that will effect your marks.

CASSIE

It’s only three shifts a week.

SALLY

Cassie, I know that you want to be independent, but I just don’t think it’s a wise idea. You’re going to have to tell Martha you’re turning the job down.

CASSIE

Aw.

CASSIE walks out.

SALLY

Am I being unreasonable?

BRAD

No, not at all.

A BEDSIT

KIM holds ARCHIE.

KIM

Hey, I’ll just put you down.

KIT puts ARCHIE in the cot and walks into the bathroom. The LANDLORD walks in.

KIM

Alright buddy. What do you think you’re doing?

LANDLORD

I own the joint.

KIM

That doesn’t give you the right to just wander on in here.

LANDLORD

Who are you mate?

KIM

The babies father and be quiet. I’ve just put him down.

LANDLORD

I rented this room to a woman and a baby. It’s an extra twenty bucks a day if you’re living here.

KIM

Well I’m not living here.

LANDLORD

Well you better leave then.

KIM

If you think better leave mate before I phone the cops and have you charged with breaking and entering, renting out an unlicensed fleapit and whatever else I can think of.

LANDLORD

When she gets back, tell her she’s evicted. I don’t want any troublemakers.

The LANDLORD walks out.

THE SURF CLUB

ALF, MARTHA and RIC walk into the bar area.

ALF

Flamin’ doctor. Quacks the lot of them.

MARTHA

What did the quack say?

ALF

What the flamin’ hell do you reckon he’d say. Me eyes are shot. How do you trust a doctor who can barely see over the desk?

ALF walks into the storeroom and slams the door.

MARTHA

OK, what really happened?

RIC

Well, they did a few tests. He is showing some loss in his side vision, but there were some other things that weren’t consistent or something.

MARTHA

So what are they going to do about it?

RIC

Well, he’s got to see a specialist and he has an appointment at the end of the week.

MARTHA

Yeah, if you can get there.

RIC

Yeah. Got to go.

RIC walks out. CASSIE walks in.

CASSIE

Hey.

MARTHA

Hey, I thought you’d be back.

CASSIE

Aw, thank goodness. I’ve been looking everywhere.

MARTHA

Yeah, I found it on the ground. It must have fallen out of your back. What are you doing now? You got to get back to school?

CASSIE

No, not for a little while. Why?

MARTHA

Well, I thought you might like to come behind the bar while we’re quiet and I can teach you a few things. No pressure.

CASSIE

No, no, I’m keen. It’s just I hadn’t made up my mind yet, that’s all, but I guess you needed someone like yesterday.

MARTHA

Well, I was kind of hanging out for you, so what do you say?

A BEDSIT

ARCHIE and KIM are there. KIM is packing a suitcase. KIT walks in.

KIT

What are you doing?

KIM

Getting you out of here.

KIT

Kim, where do you get off packing my stuff? Since when do you make those decision for me?

KIM

Since you got evicted.

KIT

What?

KIM

Look, Kit, you can’t stay here, alright. This place; it’s loud, it’s dirty and the landlord, he’s a damm creep. You know he walked in here. Didn’t even knock. I could have been in the nude.

KIT

That’s probably because I told him I wouldn’t be here today and he could come and fix the taps. Thanks a lot Kim. What am I supposed to do now?

KIM

We’ll find somewhere better for Archie. Somewhere with a back yard and I’ll move up here. I’ll get a job.

KIT

Are you listening to yourself?

KIM

Yeah. What? It makes perfect sense.

KIT

None of this makes any sense.

KIM

Kit, the baby.

KIT

Kim, you had your chance to make us a family and you blew it. You don’t want me.

KIM

No.

KIT

Why did you come here last night?

KIM

Because I was hurting and you were the only one I wanted to be with.

KIT

It’s always about you, isn’t it Kim? It doesn’t matter how unfair it is on anyone else.

KIM

No, Kit, that’s not fair.

KIT

You came here because Rachel betrayed you, not because you want me. Just go home.

KIT walks into the bathroom.

KIM

Hey, Kit, come on. Kit. Look, you really want to know. Last night I was lying here in your bed and I wanted to reach out and touch you. All I wanted to do was hold you, but I couldn’t, and that’s why I couldn’t sleep.

KIM knocks on the door.

KIM

Kit.

KIM knocks on the door.

KIM

Kit, can you hear me. What do you want from me?

KIT

I wanted you to choose me.

KIM

I do. I choose you. I do. Kit, can you hear me? I choose you.

KIT

Just go home Kim.

KIM

Come on. You don’t mean that.

KIT sits down on the floor and starts crying. KIM looks at ARCHIE.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

SALLY stands at the counter. ALF walks in carrying a case of water.

SALLY

Oh, how did your appointment go?

ALF

Oh, I’m sick of talking about it.

SALLY

I’m just worried about you, that’s all.

ALF

Yeah, well now that Martha’s talked Cassie into doing three shits a week at the club.

SALLY

Cassie took the job.

ALF

Yeah, well, I thought they’d cleared it with you.

SALLY

No, I said she couldn’t do it. It’s too much with all her school work.

ALF

Alright, well she’s still at the surf club if you want to talk to her.

SALLY

Eh, no, I can look forward to having that happy chat with her tonight. I might go and talk to Martha first though. Ta.

SALLY walks out. COLLEEN walks through from the kitchen.

COLLEEN

Aw, better late than never. In here please.

COLLEEN and ALF walk into the kitchen.

ALF

Aw, don’t you start you start Colleen. I tell you what, I’ve got so much on my plate, I don’t need you stirring things up.

COLLEEN

Aw, you think you’ve got worries Alf Stewart.

RACHEL sits at a table.

COLLEEN

Look at poor Dr. Armstrong over there, her heart is breaking in two.

MATILDA walks in on her mobile. RACHEL stands up and walks over to her.

RACHEL

Hey.

MATILDA

Aw, hi.

RACHEL

Listen, have you heard from Kit today?

MATILDA shakes her head.

RACHEL

So you don’t know if she’s heard from Kim?

MATILDA shakes her head.

RACHEL

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but he didn’t come home last night. Look, I have a feeling that she did, so if you know something, anything, I’d really like you to tell me. Matty, he’s my husband. I have a right to know.

MATILDA

I don’t know. I promise. I’m sorry for what you’re going through, but what do you want me to say?

RACHEL

The truth. For once, I want somebody to really tell me what’s going on.

ALF walks out the kitchen.

ALF

Are you alright Doc?

RACHEL

No, not really.

SYDNEY HARBOUR

KIM sits on a bench. He then stands up and runs off.

A BEDSIT

KIT packs the suitcase. She looks at a bib that says “Daddy’s little boy. KIM walks in and they kiss.

THE SURF CLUB

BRAD and RACHEL walk along outside the surf club.

RACHEL

I’ve decided when he does show up I’m not going make it about the last twenty-four hours. I want to have a calm reasonable discussion, if that’s at all possible.

BRAD

Have you found out where he stayed last night?

RACHEL

Kit’s.

BRAD

Really?

RACHEL

Well, she didn’t confirm it when she called, but she didn’t deny it either.

RACHEL sees KIM’S car.

RACHEL

He’s back.

She runs towards the car. KIT and ARCHIE are in it.

RACHEL

Oh my god. Oh no.

KIM runs out the surf club.

KIM

Rach.

RACHEL

No, don’t say anything. Just leave me alone.

RACHEL runs away.

THE BACHELOR PAD

BRAD and KIM walk in.

BRAD

Why couldn’t you have done the decent thing and broken it off with her properly?

KIM

Look, I didn’t mean for her to see us like that. I was planning on coming straight over here.

BRAD

You should have stuck around in the first place instead of taking of and leaving her here wondering what the hell was going on.

KIM

Well I needed time to think. Rach!

BRAD

So you’ve obviously decided to turn your back on your marriage, eh, to set up house with this ready-made little family of yours.

KIM

Don’t judge me Brad.

BRAD

You almost cost Rachel her career, hey, and what do you do, you repay her by getting Kit pregnant.

KIM

I want you to shut the hell up.

BRAD

Most woman would have dumped you on the spot, but not Rach. She stood by you.

KIM

Yeah, and I’m grateful.

BRAD

That is rubbish.

RACHEL walks out the bedroom.

RACHEL

Brad.

BRAD walks away.

THE SURF CLUB

MARTHA and SALLY are there.

MARTHA

Cassie was so excited about the job.

SALLY

I appreciate you offering it to her, but I just think that it’s really important that she focuses on her studies. She’s just got over all this trouble with Jules and the last thing I want is for her to be sidetracked again so close to finishing.

MARTHA

I thought she could handle both and think how good bar work will be for her when she travels and during Uni. Come on, give her a chance. Have a bit of faith.

SALLY

It’s not that I don’t have any faith. It’s just that I don’t think she needs the extra pressure.

MARTHA

OK, how about a two week trial. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll fire her.

BRAD walks in.

SALLY

Hey Brad. What is it?

THE BACHELOR PAD

KIM walks out the bedrooms. RACHEL is in the kitchen.

KIM

I’ve just a few more things.

RACHEL

I can’t watch you do this.

RACHEL and KIM hug.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

MATILDA and KIT are there.

KIT

You going to be alright?

MATILDA nods.

KIT

You know how much I love you and I’ll see you really soon, yeah.

KIT and MATILDA hug.

KIT

Good luck.

KIT walks out. MATILDA starts crying.

THE BEACH

RACHEL sits on the beach. She stands up and looks up towards the surf club and sees, KIT, ARCHIE and KIM walking along.
