Peter and Amanda talk happily of their wedding plans - things couldn’t be better.
As Amanda kisses Peter goodbye and heads off, Kelli discretely picks up the phone
and calls Ethan – it’s time to plan their next move.
Peter is home alone when Ethan ‘the catering guy from the engagement party’ pops
by to deliver an invoice. Ethan plants a seed of doubt in Peter’s mind when he casually
mentions he asked Amanda out before the party, not knowing she was engaged. Peter
is bemused as to why Amanda never mentioned it. Later, Amanda returns home and Peter
confronts her about this. An argument ensues and Amanda is stung by Peter’s suggestion
it would save them a whole lot of time and money if they didn’t get married, given
her track record. Amanda storms out and heads to the Surf Club to drown her sorrows.
Meanwhile, Kelli seizes the opportunity and calls Ethan again for the next step
of their plan.
Amanda is downing another chardonnay when Ethan waltzes into the bar. Amanda
is annoyed that he opened his big mouth to Peter but Ethan quickly wins her over
again with his charm. Amanda agrees to have a drink with him – what harm could there
be? Back at home, Peter is kicking himself for upsetting Amanda. Having come to
his senses, he now wants her to come home. Kelli insists he should just leave her
to calm down. Little does Peter know, Kelli wants to buy Ethan some more time with
Amanda to implement the next stage in their plan. Meanwhile, Amanda sips on yet
another drink. She moves off to the bathroom and checking the coast is clear, Ethan
slips some powder into her glass…
…It’s the next morning and Amanda wakes, blinking painfully as light beams through
the window. Disoriented and her head pounding, she glances around in panic, realising
she’s in unfamiliar surroundings – not to mention she’s naked. Quickly pulling the
sheets over her, she turns to see Ethan sound asleep beside her. Amanda gasps in
horror – what has she done?!
Still reeling from her discovery that she is pregnant, Martha moves into the
kitchen looking worse for wear – she has hardly slept a wink. Sally is fixing up
some brekkie for Baby Pippa when she asks Martha to hold her. Martha is overwhelmed
and hurries out, leaving Sally to watch after her with concern.
Over at the Hunter House, Sam has just accepted Jack and Tony’s offer for her
and Rory to move in with them. Everyone is ecstatic. Sam heads off to pack up some
of her things and prepare for the move as Tony moves off to work. They are not far
out the door when there’s a knock. Jack moves to answer it, thinking Sam’s forgotten
something – but he is stunned to be met by a pale looking Martha. He instantly realises
something is seriously wrong.
Martha pours her heart to Jack. Feeling like there’s no one else to turn to,
Martha is troubled by her decision ahead and seeks his advice. Jack is surprised
to hear she is considering an abortion and urges Martha not to make any life changing
decisions when she is so emotional. Martha returns home to an empty house and picks
up the phone. She waits for someone to answer and then makes an appointment. In
spite of her long talk with Jack, Martha is having an abortion – but is she making
the right decision?
A fragile looking Martha returns home from the clinic. She carefully lowers herself
onto the lounge but once she’s there, the reality of the abortion sinks in and she
suddenly breaks down in uncontrollable sobs.
