2008 Awards

I'm sure we could come up with some groovy name to call these awards, but due to the lack of that here are the 2008 BTTB Awards, as voted by you.

Best Actor

08poll_todd.jpg 1) Todd Lasance

2) Paul O'Brien

3) Jon Sivewright

4) Lincoln Lewis

5) Josh Quong Tart

It's usually the main award at any ceremony and so takes it's place at the head of our list. Whilst in some of these lists Best and Favourite sometimes merge together, Todd has been given some pretty tasty stuff this year, usually something to do with his troubled childhood and has pulled it off well. Even this year Jack has been given more to do than chase people with a gun.

Best Actress

08poll_jess.jpg1) Jessica Tovey

2) =Amy Mathews

= Jodi Gordon

4)Kate Richie

5) Sharni Vinson

In much the same way her partner in crime Todd strolled to the male award, Jessica Tovey takes the female award, with a large number of the storylines in the second half of the season revolving around her. Amy Mathews and Jodi Gordon continue to churn out solid performances, whilst despite leaving 10 months ago, both Kate and Sharni are remembered for the strong stuff they did last February and March.

Best Newcomer

08poll_nicole.jpg 1) Nicole

2) Roman

3) Miles

4) Charlie

5) Ruby

Nicole wins this gathering almost half the vote in a surprising result, especially when you remember how much of spoilt brat she was when she arrived earlier in the year. Roman and Miles gain 2nd and 3rd, but may have suffered due to the length of time they've actually been on the show. Charlie and Ruby, the Buxton Girls make up the top 5.

Best Guest Actor/Actress

08poll_jazz.jpg1) Rachel Gordon (Jazz)

2) Cornelia Frances (Morag)

3) Paul Gleeson (Larry)

4) Callan Mulvey (Johnny)

5) Luke Jacobz (Angelo)

Interestingly the most popular guest character was a character that had appeared in 2007 and returned for a few weeks early this year, second place went to recurring guest and continuously popular Morag and 4th to Callan Mulvey, a character returning for a few episodes with the sole purpose of dying, but having made numerous appearances in previous years, which means the writers may be good at choosing which characters to come back, however many of their "new" guests have set the pulses racing.

 Biggest Disappointment

08poll_leah_irene.jpg 1) Lack of Leah and Irene storylines

2) Should have been more past character returns/visits

3) Kirsty and Kane's return

4) Lack of 20th anniversary celebrations

5) Lucas's low key exit

And it would have probably been the same for the past 2 or 3 years, when Leah and Irene have both done very little. Why? I don't know. They are both played by capable actresses and having interesting back stories. Both 2 and 4 go towards the same thing, with the viewers feeling more could have been done to celebrate the 20th anniversary. KK's return also is a disappointment, probably more for the loyal fans who have seen their pairing split up as Kirsty moves on with her life. The fact that Lucas appeared to be rushed out the bay earlier this year disappoints the fans as well.
