How to lose a guy in ten ways

How to lose a guy in ten ways - The Cassie Turner Guide to an unsuccessful relationship

1. Don't talk to each other about your problems

Ric was Cassie's first boyfriend and the first person she opened up to about her abusive past. Their relationship weathered some difficult times as Ric accused her of cheating with her counselling buddy but it was in the aftermath of Flynn's death that things really fell apart. Wrapped up in their own grief, Cassie and Ric struggled to talk to each other before eventually drifting apart.

2. Get involved with a bad boy to make your ex jealous

It was clear to everyone that Cassie and Ric still had feelings for each other but neither was willing to take the first step and talk to the other. When bad boy Aden started showing an interest, Cassie jumped head first into something in an attempt to make Ric jealous. Only problem was that Ric's jealousy got the better of him and Aden wasn't the sort of boy to just leave it. With Aden's brother threatening to kill Ric and Aden giving him an alibi, Cassie quickly realised that using Aden to make Ric jealous was a bad move.

Belle Taylor might have been keen to get her claws into Ric and Ric might not have been clever enough to see through her plan but he didn't have any intention of cheating on Cassie. That was, until Cassie allowed herself to become jealous of Belle and took that jealousy out on Ric. Accusing him of things he hadn't done wasn't the best way to encourage him to spend more time with her and true to form, Ric headed straight into Belle's arms.

4. Trust a guy with a temper

The only single girl in a town full of loved up people, Macca was almost too good to be true when he arrived in the Bay. She thought he was good looking, older, charming and Martha's brother, he seemed ideal until she began to see flashes of his temper. His anger and jealousy caused Cassie to flinch many a time but she always gave in to his pleading apologies afterwards instead of reading the obvious signs. Even when he first lashed out at her, Cassie refused to leave him and ignored the advice of her family and friends to stay with him.

5. Cheat on a guy you can trust with a guy you can't trust

After her nightmare with Macca, Ric was someone Cassie knew, someone she trusted, he was safe and familiar. When a seemingly changed Macca returned to the Bay though, he ignited the spark that had been missing between her and Ric. Ric worshipped her, cutting short his apprenticeship to organise a romantic surprise for her but caught her instead with Macca. Cassie chose to listen to her heart and not her head and pretty much everyone but her could see it was all going to end in tears.

6. Believe a guy has changed

When Cassie chose Macca over Ric, she was the only person who really believed he had changed. Her friends and family didn't trust him, a million viewers didn't trust him but Cassie refused to listen. The same warning signs were evident and it took Macca lashing out once more before Cassie finally believed that a leopard doesn't really change his spots.

7. Judge a book by it's cover

Jules made mistakes, he acted jealously towards Alex and did stupid, immature things such as trashing his bike. Despite everything though his feelings towards Cassie were genuine, even if he wasn't the best at showing it. Unfortunately Cassie couldn't see past Jules's stupid mistakes and impulsive actions and when faced with a choice between him and the confident well travelled Alex, Jules was quickly confined to dating exile.

8. Be swayed by the well travelled older guy

Alex was older. He'd been travelling for years and was full of stories to tell. Cassie was wide eyed in admiration and hung besotted on his every word. Unfortunately he was also hiding a secret drug habit. Bailed out of a Greek prison by sister Leah, Alex clearly hadn't learnt his lesson when Cassie walked in on him with a stash full of drugs. Once again Cassie had been swayed by someone who just wasn't as good as they appeared.

9. Date a guy who's being blackmailed by his best mate's mother

Okay so we're scraping the barrel here, it wasn't really Cassie's fault her relationship with Jules broke up the second time round. It wasn't really Jules fault either that Jazz was blackmailing him, it was just one of those bad luck things. Cassie didn't really give him a chance to explain though, she just assumed the worst and poor Jules left the Bay in disgrace.

10. Don't learn from your mistakes

Henk was the well travelled older man, he had a past, he'd been a bad boy, her family and friends warned her off and nobody believed he had changed. Sound familiar? In taking up with Henk after hearing about what he had done to Rachel, Cassie showed that she hadn't learnt anything at all from her previous relationships. She jumped in feet first and now pregnant, with HIV and unable to trust the guy responsible, poor Cassie didn't really have the best judgement when it came to men.

Finally! She saw sense and after a chat with Pippa, told Henk that she loved him but couldn't be with him. She finally realised that love wasn't enough to build a successful relationship and took off around the world with Sally and with no need for a man at her side. The moral of the story? Men bought Cassie nothing but trouble.. she finally came to the same conclusion we did.. she was better off alone.
