Most Popular Character 08 - 1 point

The hang-out of those who were liked by only one person and even then it was their last choice so they weren't all that particularly well liked. Still, it could have been worse! Even so this is a rather oddball selection featuring a teddy bear, a dog, some random guest characters from throughout the years and eh, the biggest male pin-up on the show from the first half of the 1990's!

In early-2007 every second character was a guest character. Cam owned Summer Bay's very own erotic dancing club , The Rocket Club, and as Martha went of the rails after yet another dodgy boyfriend, abortions and all those other going-off-the-rail things that female soap characters do, she became friendly with Cam. In some financial related storyline which is honestly to boring to recount in much detail, Cam found himself bankrupt and decided that the way to get around that was to burn the whole joint down. Unfortunately for Martha she was in the office and was then predictably rescued by Jack and Cam was carted off to join Jesse, Barry, Scott Phillips, Johnny, Kelli, Ethan and co in jail. Actually, at least half of the other guest character over the past few years have also been a bit dodgy.

Eduardo Bearo was a bear that Kane bought for Kirsty, and at the time he was said to have been a scene stealer. He went off in the back of the car with them when they did a runner. He has proved very popular with our members and had a huge following when his memoirs were published on BttB. He is now believed to be somewhere in Hollywood, a city renowned for leading people off the rails.

Blake arrived with his sister Karen, and two chips on each shoulder, blaming himself because his Mum died of cancer(sound familiar?). Alf and Ailsa took him in and he then fell in love with Meg who had Leukemia and who died on the beach in his arms(sound familiar?) Blake then got together on and off with Sophie and comes back now and again, each time with less and less hair. He and Sophie live in Perth with her daughter Tamara and their son baby David.

Dean, assuming we are talking about the Dean of Gareth & Dean, was such a good character. Yes, he was shuffled off as soon as he came out, but that's not his fault. It was a legitimate attempt at a gay story line, and I for one appreciated it. Besides which, that wasn't all Dean was about. We met him at a retreat for troubled teens, where he was trying to recover from alcoholism, where he was trying to help Mattie recover from bulimia, and where his friend attempted suicide. He had past issues with Drew from a previous school, he was a runaway, and a suspect in the arson cases that were happening around the bay. He was a grounded character with a lot going on, and he looked like a perfectly good candidate for Mattie's new boyfriend. Until her old boyfriend, Lucas, just happened to see Dean and his old boyfriend, Gareth, in a very intimate hug on the rocks. (I think we were meant to assume that there was kissing while the camera was on Lucas, since he was so sure that Dean was gay after that). I liked it. I liked Dean. I've often classed him as one of the "evil" gays (like Sarah, Eve, Tracy, Charlie etc), but in fact, the evil part of him came from denying his sexuality - that's what caused him to drink, that's what caused him to use Mattie the way he did. The point of that story was to say that he was better off admitting who he was and being happy with Gareth, the way that Gareth was happy with him. And the way that Lucas was friends with him after he stopped lying to Mattie showed that it wasn't Dean's sexuality that Luc had a problem with. Dean was a good forerunner to a more permanent gay character. I'm actually still waiting for him to come back.

Joey's Dad was Saul Bennett, the evil cult leader. Joey ran away to get a formal education and Saul was pretty teed off about it. Joey developed Schizophrenia and thought he had to kill Irene, but luckily he was sorted out by the psych teams before he could succeed.. Joey is now working his way around Australia giving talks to young people on mental health issues. Conveniently, since either Alex O'Han doesn't want to return or hasn't been asked, he hasn't called in for a visit at Summer Bay again.

Back in 1988 we weren't as PC as we are now, and poor Nico was seen as retarded(autistic) by half of Summer Bay. Especially by Donald Fisher, who was none too pleased when Martin and Lance (who weren't much brighter than Nico), convinced him that he should put a pile of cow dung on Fisher's steps. He was suspected of being the Summer Bay Nutter and was sent to a mental institution. It was soon uncovered that it was Bertram was the Nutter and Nico sort of just faded back into the background. Possibly somewhere near the Campbell farm there is a some Greek guy who still owns a farm. Probably not though!

How Ryan got a point I honestly don't know. His acting is fine, but otherwise he just fades away... Just like his stepbrother VJ.  Although one incident of note is when he was jealous of the attention that Leah and Dan gave to VJ, and he retaliated by "accidentally" burning VJ's hand when the adults weren't looking... Amanda Vale's son or what!?

Scruffy is one of the most beautiful dogs in the world, as many forum members will agree, and unfortunately my Scruffy got caught up between the awfulness that is the quadrangle between Michael/Martha/Jack/Sam ... JACK AND MARTHA BE DAMNED. Aww, just look at that lovely picture...
