Most Popular Character 08 - 16-20

Can I drag out the pain any longer? Well, yes, I can as we get near the top the groups get smaller and smaller until they are almost infinitesimally small. So, here we look at the five people in the bottom quarter of the top 20. Apart from Gypsy they, all left within the past two years so they don't really need any introduction. What's more they're all related!

16. Robbie Hunter - 70 points
UP 17

Robbie was truly one of those one-of-a-kind, original characters. He might have been an attempt to create a new Vinnie, but while they didn't succeed in doing that, they managed to create a unique character. I think the thing that made so many of us love Robbie was how human he was. Robbie was far from perfect, and while he mostly came across as fun, outgoing and full of crazy ideas, we also got to see the real Robbie, a scared and insecure character scarred by his father, and just trying to fit in.The most important thing about Robbie was that he did what great characters and sources of inspiration do; he fell time after time, like we all do, but no matter what he always managed to get back on his feet.

17=. Barry Hyde - 63 points
UP 3

Barry is obviously missed. He has risen in the rankings despite being absent from our screens. The nature of his departure was one which changed the way he was perceived by many. A complex character who over time endeared himself to many viewers. His relationship with his son Kim, the scenes where he described the death of his son Jonathon, and of his wife Kerry were remarkable and moving. His relationship with Irene also plays a huge part in his popularity as their scenes together were always excellent - either comical, romantic, touching, or tragic. Their final scenes were heartbreaking. And of course their is that mellifluous voice so beloved by many fans. There is a large fan base who would like to see him back, and with Irene. Ivar Kants was able to inject so many layers into this character, who started out so unsympathetically, but whom we saw over time to be a deeply flawed but loving father and partner, and who is now a character who is clearly missed.

17=. Peter Baker - 63 points
DOWN 5

Peter was the detective on the case of Sarah Lewis, The Summer Bay Stalker, and... The Summer Bay Stalker again. How could he have predicted that the strung-out Crystal Meth addict would put him in a coma?; that the friendly neighbourhood nurse was actually a psychotic serial killer?; or that his own partner, Tracey Thompson, was plotting to literally stab him in the back? Well, Tracey got her comeuppance when she and Eve blew themselves up at Jack and Martha's wedding, taking nobody they intended down with them. Peter pretended to die to avoid some unfriendly mobsters, only to rise from the "dead" months later (much like Eve) upon hearing that his son, Drew, had come to the bay. We can also credit Peter for the introduction of his brother, Dan, who gave him a run for his money when it came to vying for the affections of Leah. Dan won that battle, but Peter won Dan's ex-wife, Amanda, so everybody was happy.

19. Gypsy Nash - 59 points
DOWN 10

Gypsy didn't half fit a lot into her four years on the show. Car crashes, stalkers, abductions, pregnancies, lesbianism and no shortage of men. Gypsy was the original tart with a heart, seemingly not caring about anything and anyone but underneath vulnerable and crying out to be loved. Gypsy was feisty, sassy and had more attitude than a room full of wags but she also was loyal, caring. Behind the sharp tongue and the vindictive bitchiness, Gypsy genuinely cared. Some of her one liners and throwaway comments were hysterical and her banter with Colleen was always fun. Her romance with Will brought out her softer side but she always retained her independent edge and that is why her fans still miss her.

20. Amanda Vale - 53 points
UP 3

Vindictive and coy, Amanda is one pouting princess not to be messed with. Even her own psychotic sister couldn't bring her down, try as she might. After years of unhealthy, destructive, and downright disturbing relationships, Amanda finally settled down with Peter Baker - her ex-husband's brother who's son she also slept with - and they all lived happily ever after.
