‘Home and Away: An Eye for an Eye’ a success for Presto
‘Home and Away: An Eye for an Eye‘, the first ever Home and Away spin-off episode to broadcast on Presto, has reportedly been a massive success for the Australian streaming service.
The episode premiered the evening of 9th December, straight after the main show’s season finale. Between 8:30pm and midnight, over 55% of the service’s total streaming was for the special episode, which also broke the service’s all day streaming records.
According to a Presto spokesperson, the streaming service saw its new subscribers grow by 300 per cent in this seven day period, compared to its regular week-on-week figures, with a surge of sign ups seen in the hours leading up to the episode’s debut.
The exclusive episode saw the return of two of the show’s favourite characters, Heath Braxton (Dan Ewing) and Bianca Scott (Lisa Gormley), as Brax (Steve Peacocke) and Ricky’s (Bonnie Sveen) baby son Casey is kidnapped in a calculated act of revenge by Brax’s arch nemesis – Gunno (Diarmid Heidenreich) – the man responsible for his seeming ‘death’.
Shaun James, Presto TV CEO, said, “When we first announced that Home and Away: An Eye for an Eye would stream on Presto, the feedback was incredible, but now that it’s arrived, we’ve been truly blown away by the popularity of the special event which has been reflected by both our streaming numbers and in our massive uptake in subscriptions.
“Clearly this iconic Australian series has more than captured the hearts of generations of viewers, dominating over 55% of total Presto streaming last night between 8.30pm and midnight.”
Presto has also been airing a collection of Home and Away‘s favourite Births, Deaths and Weddings episodes, and these have also ranked high in the lead up to the premiere of An Eye for an Eye.
The high demand for the Summer Bay spinoff means Presto are now considering the possibility of future spinoff episodes. News.com.au website reports that a spokesperson for Presto has said “we’re not ruling it out”.
