Extended Summary
Just getting over breaking up with Elijah, Leah is shocked to hear from Miles that he has been badly injured in Africa. It becomes clear that they need to send someone in to take care of him, due to the conditions of the hospital. Whilst Leah’s first instinct is to rush to be with him, Miles counsels that it is a bad idea as they have just broken up. Miles is firm though – he’s going to go. She insists she’s going to go, but Miles simply resolves that, in that case, both of them will be going. Later in the Diner, Charlie talks to Leah about the situation – does Elijah even want her to go? In the aftermath of their break up, the trip could be confusing for everyone. Leah admits that the idea is crazy, but it’s something she needs to do. In the end Robertson goes to visit Miles, determined to prevent Leah putting herself in harms way. Robertson offers Miles a deal – if he convinces Leah not to return to Africa, he’ll file a report suggesting there is a lack of evidence in the Penn case. Miles goes to see Leah and is adamant he’s going alone, using VJ’s future as a means of persuading her. After much consideration, it is decided and Miles goes to Africa to look after Elijah instead, but not before subtly telling Roo that Robertson might be out of their hair sooner rather than later. Robertson catches up with Leah and is pleased to discover she isn’t going to Africa. He reveals that head office are scaling back the operation and he’ll be going back to the city in a few days.
Nicole confronts Alexander in the Diner about his cheating where he states that, actually, he was cheating on his girlfriend and not Ruby. Ruby tells Charlie about Alexander and his cheating and her feelings that every relationship she tries to follow up turns to rubbish. Charlie tells her not to feel sorry for herself – next time she sees him, she needs to demand answers instead of blaming herself. Ruby ends up confronting Alexander during a driving lesson to find out for herself. Alexander tries to talk his way around what he’s done – he’s not broken up with his girlfriend yet, but he’s going to – and when Ruby doesn’t buy it he turns on her, telling her he wouldn’t have bothered if she wasn’t so easy. He knows about her past with Xavier and Geoff and there’s no reason why they can’ t have a little fun. Ruby is left crushed and storms out of the car. Charlie is incensed at Alexanders actions and goes to confront Alexander, using her position of authority to pull him over in his car and to bully him into apologising to Ruby.
Ruby is thrilled by his apology, unaware he was pressured into it. Unfortunately Ruby soon finds out the truth, overhearing Charlie and Angelo talking about it – and she’s not happy about it. Charlie catches up with Ruby the following morning and tells her she was only looking out for her. Ruby is grateful, but asks her not to do things behind her back. Charlie tells Ruby that she needs to use her brain more when it comes to chasing love, and getting herself into difficult situations. She needs to start thinking with her head instead of her heart. However Ruby interprets this as saying that the whole situation has been her own fault, and is unhappy.
Dexter is down in the aftermath of his dinner with Graves. Indi tries suggesting he lay off romance for a while but Dex remains defiant – sending her a text could work. Roo calls Gina and leaves a message asking her if she’s read the letter from Hugo – and if she’s made a decision.
