Extended Summary
Kit, having acknowledged to Matilda her true feelings for Kim, has also resolved that there has to be a place in baby Archie’s life for Kim even though it will be difficult being around him a lot more. Kim is pleased to be spending time with Archie and excited about getting his old job back at the Gym now that Tony owns it. But things aren’t improving at home where Rachel and Hugh are feeling very uncomfortable around each other.
Colleen visits, when Kim is with Kit and the baby, and gives them a voucher to have some family photos taken. The photographer, Prue, arrives and the photo-shoot takes place on the beach. While setting up her shots Prue flirts with Kim which unsettles Kit, as does Prue’s assumptions, firstly that they are married and then that they are living together. Rachel also feels uncomfortable when she stumbles across the photos being taken. Kim hadn’t told her about them. Kim placates Rachel over the photo-shoot and she confides about her earlier row with Hugh. Kim tells her to sort it out – she and Hugh are good friends. But when Rachel finally meets up with Hugh – he has some startling news of his own to impart.
Meanwhile, Alf asks Kim to help him hose down some rescue boat equipment which Kim is only too happy to help out with. But when Kim connects up some of the electrical equipment he receives a massive electrical shock that renders him prone on the ground.
While Hugh is down the beach Rachel has a visitor, it’s Ingrid. She’s here to see Hugh and she’s prepared to wait for him to get back. Rachel becomes very uncomfortable with Ingrid’s company when she starts telling her about the night she slept with Hugh. The longer Ingrid stays the more up-tight Rachel gets, as she continues to push Rachel’s buttons. Hugh is in the diner having breakfast when Rachel verbally attacks him over the way he’s treated Ingrid. Hugh makes it’s clear that it’s really none of her business. Hugh sees a “flatmate wanted” sign that Martha’s posted and makes a spur of the moment decision to apply. Later Hugh runs into Ingrid on the beach, and after her long chat with Rachel earlier, she suggests that Rachel is the reason Hugh’s not interested in her. Hugh doesn’t confirm it but we know it’s true.
Martha is finding it hard to make ends meet financially and asks Alf if she can advertise for a flat-mate to help her with the rent. Alf doesn’t object and Martha puts up a notice. Jack, whose romantic interest in Martha is slowly rekindling, eventually decides to apply to be her flatmate but is told that she’s already given the room to Hugh.
