First seen getting the keys to her van from Travis, Cathryn noticeably struggled to sign her van agreement. She ran into an embarrassed Alf whose robe had opened and caught Will and Gypsy in her van, but thought they were cleaners.

The next day, Alf approached her and introduced himself. He wondered if she was into cars as he thought she was staring at one, but she revealed that she was legally blind – while she could make out shapes, most other things she couldn’t see. However, she didn’t often tell people this.

Her and Alf developed a nice friendship, where he was able to open up about his marital woes with Ailsa. Meanwhile, he was able to help Cathryn to make her holiday one to remember. He took her driving, despite her not having a licence, and they went fishing together.

A couple of days later, she told him that she was leaving and they planned their last outing together. That night, Cathryn saved Alf when a fire started in his caravan. She was visited by Ailsa after this to thank her for her attempts to help them reconcile. Before leaving the bay, Cathryn give Alf some information about a men’s camp called Warrior Summit. Afterwards, she thanked him for making her holiday special. Alf ended up going to the camp.
