First seen talking to Elaine Armstrong, Rachel’s mother. Doris was the grandmother of Charlie McKinnon. Rachel gave Doris a check up because she hadn’t been well for some time and needed her grandson to care for her. She was taken to the NDH and was told that she needed to stay there overnight. Charlie wasn’t particularly happy at this as his grandfather, Doris’ husband, had died in hospital. Charlie agreed to let his grandmother go after being reassured by Rachel that everything would be fine.

Doris had apparently been taking the wrong medicine, one of the reasons why she was so ill. Rachel was shocked to discover that Charlie was the one who had access to all of her medicine. Charlie denied all allegations towards him and said that it was just her old age that was making her think unclearly.

As she was still unwell, Doris had to continue taking medication to help her condition improve. The only one who seemed to be able to get through to her though, was Charlie. So he said he would make sure that she got the pills she needed. When Rachel came back to check on her at the hospital, it was clear that she hadn’t been given the pills as her blood pressure level was raised. In a hurry, Rachel gave Doris some morphine. However, she didn’t dispose of the vile in the correct way causing Charlie to inject his gran with even more morphine.

He called out for help but nothing could be done to save her, she died. Charlie continued his downward spiral after his grandmother’s death and was eventually taken to the psych ward.
