Episodes: 4134-4209, 4284, 4909, 4913
Occupation: Hospital administrator
Doctor Olivetti was the CEO of Northern District Hospital. He was first seen when he informed Rachel she was in the final three for the world medal. He told her that, as part of the contest, she would need to prepare a lecture that she would have to give if she won and agreed to Doctor Helpman, who had nominated her, helping her out.
A few weeks later, Rachel approached Olivetti to reveal Helpman had been sexually harassing her and that, after she turned him down, he had bullied her and messed around with her shifts. Olivetti acknowledged the evidence of Helpman’s ill treatment but Rachel was forced to admit Helpman had discovered she was in a relationship with Kim, a former patient. Olivetti told her Helpman would be investigated but also suspended her for her own breach of conduct. He brought her back in for an interview after the incident appeared in the papers but Kim interrupted the meeting to defend Rachel, saying she had done her best to cut all ties with him and they loved each other.
Olivetti eventually told Rachel that she would no longer be able to practise as a psychiatrist and there was a chance she would be struck off. However, he later recalled her to say that, after Derek Young had spoken highly of how she responded when VJ was brought in with alcohol poisoning, they were offering her a job as a junior registrar in the Emergency Department. When Rachel accepted the offer, he revealed it had come from the new regional director: her father, Robert.
When Rachel went to see Olivetti with her suspicion that Charlie McKinnon had killed his grandmother with an overdose of medication, Olivetti revealed that Charlie had already accused her of getting Doris’ medication wrong. Even though Rachel pointed out a second phial of the medication had been found near Doris’ bed, Olivetti suspended her pending the investigation. When Charlie claimed Rachel had made inappropriate advances towards him, her history meant Olivetti wasn’t sure who to believe, although Rachel was eventually cleared when Charlie’s instability became obvious. Olivetti later told Rachel she had been offered a scholarship in New York. She initially turned it down because of Kim, but after Kim proposed to her she changed her mind and told Olivetti she was accepting (although in the end, the events surrounding the explosion at Jack and Martha’s wedding meant they didn’t go).
Olivetti was next seen after James Dalton had given a patient the wrong medication while working under the influence of cannabis. After speaking with him and Rachel, he told James he was being suspended while it was investigated and he could face charges of negligence. He later had to step in when the patient’s son had a go at James in the corridor.
After a long absence, Olivetti reappeared when Rachel was accused of negligence after Jane Avent’s baby was stillborn. Rachel told him that she had asked Julie to get Jane a bedpan, which would have stopped Jane going to the toilet and going into labour on her own, but Olivetti revealed Julie had told him she thought Rachel was referring to another parent. Olivetti later greeted Jane and her husband Rex when they came to hear the board’s decision, telling them Rachel wasn’t required to attend, and the board concluded Rachel had done nothing wrong.
