Earl was first seen in the Surf Club by Miles. He said he was from the city and had come to Summer Bay to ‘try his luck’. It was clear that Earl was homeless and hungry so Miles gave him some money to get something to eat.

Later, Charlie and Angelo were called to a report of a public indecency on the beach. It turned out it was Earl who was just getting washed in the sea… naked! Earl refused to come out so Angelo went in to get him to put some shorts on. When Earl came out of the water, Miles asked him if he wanted to use the amenities block at the caravan park instead.

A few days later Earl bumped into Miles and Ruby at the Surf Club. Miles offered Earl a coffee and Earl accepted his offer but immediately took off. Ruby questioned why Earl didn’t say thanks so Miles said that it was probably because he was embarrassed. Later, Ruby saw Earl outside the Surf Club listening to his radio. She said hello and offered to take Earl to the Diner for something to eat. Earl pondered for a while then tried to snatch Ruby’s bag. Miles saw it happen and shouted out to Earl but he ran off and was never seen again.
