Alias: Paul Maloney

When Alf was running against Josh as mayor, he was approached by a man calling himself Paul Maloney, who claimed to be a local businessman supporting Alf’s campaign and offered him a $10,000 donation. Alf was happy to accept the support but afterwards Maloney went to Josh and told him that Alf had taken the bait. Not long after, Alf was arrested for fraud after it was discovered the donation had actually come from surf club accounts and was unable to prove that Maloney even existed.

At Alf’s trial, the prosecution called an IT expert, Richard Ward, to the stand, but when Alf saw him he recognised him as Maloney. Morag asked to have the matter investigated but Judge Gilroy, who was in Josh’s pay, insisted he be allowed to speak. Although he seemed uncertain of his facts, Richard claimed that it would have been impossible for someone to have defrauded the bank by impersonating Alf online. After digging into his past, Morag brought up the fact that he had once been arrested for doing exactly that, but Gilroy quickly shut down the line of questioning and dismissed the witness.

What happened to him after Josh’s scheming was exposed is unknown.
