Sam was one of the River Boys who played a game of pool with Ruby at the surf club, annoying Casey. The next day, down on the beach, he gave Casey some not-entirely-helpful advice that when he went to juvenile detention he should immediately make his mark by hitting the biggest guy in the yard. He was dismissive of Alf’s warning that the water was unsafe for surfing and present when Casey had to be rescued after hitting his head. He later attended the party Heath threw at the Braxton house to mark Casey’s last night of freedom.
Not long after, Sam and another River Boy, Benji Perrin, met with Brax and Heath in the hope of Brax offering them work, but he would only offer them jobs at Angelo’s delivering pizzas rather than anything criminal. Later that day, Brax found Sam and Benji drinking in Angelo’s, with a large wad of cash from what Sam called a “business opportunity”. Suspecting they had been involved in something illegal, Brax ordered them out. Brax was proved right: In Episode 5414, Charlie revealed that Sam had been picked up by police in Queensland with $500 in his possession and confessed to being the getaway driver in a service station robbery Benji had pulled.
