The first set of the new ‘surreal’ titles saw two characters added for the first time, who had already been on the show in a regular role for over six months. Alex Bennett had first appeared back in October 1995, whilst Chloe Richards had made her return to Summer Bay in November after an earlier guest stint.

The Home and Away logo was now represented by a physical prop, as opposed to being an on-screen graphic, in the form of a large sign erected on the beach which Steven and Sam are seen wheeling into place.
