The fourth set of titles for 1999, which were introduced in August, saw a number of character changes.

Having been a recurring guest on the show since his birth in 1988, Duncan Stewart was added to the opening titles for the first time. Duncan’s shot, which saw him composited into a photo frame, was the first known use of visual effects in the titles, and wouldn’t have looked out of the place in the later style used from 2004. However the spacing of the font in actor Brendan McKensy’s credit was not in line with all of the others, giving the text and drop shadow a much heavier appearance.

The other new addition was Peta Janossi, whose first appearance on the show had come three months beforehand.

Travis and Rebecca Nash, together with Chloe Richards, were removed following their exits from Summer Bay the previous week.

In a curious move, which we can only put down to a mistake, Chloe’s now ex-husband James Fraser was also removed, despite him remaining on the show.
