The new millennium heralded a new era for the show’s opening titles, with a complete stylistic overhaul. Gone were the snippets of live footage introducing the characters, and instead the 2000 season saw the introduction of modern motion graphics, designed by Julie Lafferty.
Framed animated shots of the actors floated across the screen, on a background of underwater footage and various beach related shots, and for the first time the character names were not included. Also prominent was the addition of several computer-generated pallet surgeonfish that swam across the entirety of the sequence.
In another new development, the recap of the previous episode now played before the opening titles, within an animated frame.
The new opener was accompanied by a brand new recording of the theme tune by The Robertson Brothers, who can actually be seen singing in one of the background shots halfway through the sequence.
