Extended Summary

Steven is at Alf’s shop, telling him about Morag telling Sally’s uncle to suck up to Sally. Marilyn is buying a stack of magazines and complains about the cost when they all come out on the same day. Steven says they’d cost the same if they came out on different days but Marilyn says no, she’d never spend that much on one magazine!

Lance puts the “Image” song on the jukebox at the Diner but Vicki says it’s garbage. She looks on as Viv obeys her instruction to tell Matt she can’t go to the dance with him. Matt thinks it’s ridiculous that she has changed her mind again.

Alf confronts Morag in her office about what she said to Ross Keating and Morag says it’s a mystery how the whole town knows about something confidential, especially since Celia is in Europe! However, she thinks she knows who leaked it.

Matt sees Vicki eyeing him up at the Diner and makes a run for it (apparently out of some side door off-camera). Ailsa tells Lance to give it a rest as he puts the song on the jukebox again. Lance says it’s him singing but Vicki tells him to pull the other one. Lance tells her to just wait and see, and crashes into an irate Morag on his way out. Morag confronts Adam for disclosing professional information overheard in her office; she expects people who work for her to be discreet. Adam reminds her that she said he’s just the guy painting her office, so the rules don’t apply to him.

Lance storms into the mobile home, telling Martin that nobody believes it’s them singing the song. Martin says it’s not really them but Lance says it’s got their names on it. Martin tells Lance not to blow it; they can’t say anything until Nina gives them the go-ahead. Marilyn arrives, excited by an “interview” they have in one of her magazines. Lance gets even angrier because the whole thing is made up.

At the flat, Andrew is reading the article in “Solid Rock” magazine (which looks suspiciously like Rolling Stone) and asks Stacey how she managed to make the terrible trio to sound so articulate. Stacey admits the whole thing is fabricated and Andrew isn’t impressed.

Viv lets Steven in to Donald’s house and he asks why she changed her mind about the dance again. Viv confesses that Vicki warned her off. Steven says she should just tell Vicki to rack off but Viv says everyone would hate her. Steven asks Viv to go with him instead.

Marilyn won’t let Lance get close to her while they watch TV because they’re not allowed. Steven and Viv arrive as Viv wants to ask for Marilyn’s help with her makeup. Lance storms out when Viv says the picture in the magazine doesn’t look like him, saying he may as well not even exist.

Lance goes to Stacey’s flat and has a go at her. Stacey tells him he’ll be a superstar if he doesn’t blow it but Lance doesn’t want to be. Stacey says she’ll explain how he feels to Nina. Lance asks her to find out why he can’t go out with Marilyn too. Lance leaves and Andrew accuses Stacey of taking advantage of Lance for the money.

Lance and Martin run into Andrew outside the Diner the following morning. Lance is feeling manipulated and so Andrew tells him to learn to say no. Lance goes home and makes a phone call, arranging to see somebody on Sunday.

At school, Vicki tells Viv to re-do an assignment for her if she wants to be friends. Steven overhears and tells Vicki to rack off but Viv says it’s OK.

Ailsa arrives at Morag’s office with Duncan in the baby carrier and a bottle of champagne to christen the new premises. Morag receives a threatening phone call and says it was probably someone she sent to jail. She tells Ailsa it comes with the territory, but is clearly unsettled.

Steven is at Andrew’s and tells him he doesn’t understand why Viv will do anything to be in Vicki’s group. Andrew reminds Steven how he gave up all of his opinions in favour of Dodge’s. He tells Steven to give her time.

Back at the school, Vicki tells her friends they can get Viv to do anything. Steven drags Vicki away and tells her to give Viv a break. Viv comes around the corner and Vicki asks her if she’s done the assignment yet but she hasn’t.

Stacey arrives at Lance and Martin’s and tells Lance that Nina will be speaking to him soon. Lance tells her he’s having his own article written; the interviewer is coming on Sunday. Back at the flat, Stacey yells at Andrew for interfering with Lance and always having to be “Summer Bay’s social conscience”. Andrew lets her spout and she asks what he’s staring at. Andrew is staring at her… it’s wonderful. He tells Stacey to shut up and kisses her.
