The Summer Bay soccer heroes take on Yabbie Creek and Coral is cause for some concern.

Extended Summary

Pippa, Coral, Sally and Carly are getting the dinner ready. Coral ponders what Tom is having for dinner. Steven arrives home from soccer training, noting they have a match against Yabbie Creek in the morning. Carly and Sally point out that they never beat them. Pippa is trying to carve the meat and realises she needs to sharpen the knife, asking Steven to do it. Coral suggests she should get an electric knife and Steven and Carly try to put her off the idea, saying they’re dangerous and a waste of money.

Danny turns down Morag’s offer to move in, saying he’s worried about the gossip and scandal. He suggests she gets Celia to move in if she doesn’t want to be alone but Morag doesn’t want to try that again and leaves. Danny celebrates the fact that Morag is scared.

Lance and Martin’s mobile home is still full of boxes of bunyip toys and Martin doesn’t know what to do with them. Lance asks what happened to the Martin who got sacked from Macklin’s, which gives Martin an idea. He goes round to see Stacey and suggests Macklin’s could sell the bunyips as souvenirs, with the company logo on, offering her a percentage if she sells the idea to Gordon. Stacey thinks it’s a good idea but says another company already has the franchise for Macklin’s souvenirs and she doesn’t want to ruin her relationship with Gordon by getting involved in the business again. At the store, Lance shows Celia one of the toys and tries to encourage her to sell them. Celia isn’t against the idea but points out Alf would never agree to it, given how anti-bunyip he is.

At the Diner, Don and Adam try to instil some confidence in Steven and another player prior to the game. Their case isn’t helped when Lance comes along and says Summer Bay have never beaten Yabbie Creek, not even when he was young.

Morag puts the chain on her door and tests a personal alarm she’s holding. She sits down but still looks very nervous. During the night, after Morag’s gone to bed, Danny goes to the house and tries to let himself in but finds his keys don’t work.

The following morning, Pippa, Carly, Lance and Stacey are among the supporters gathering for the football match, although Lance doesn’t rate their chances. Don and Adam arrive with the Summer Bay team in a minibus. Don tries to give them a pep-talk but two Yabbie Creek players taunt Steven and his friend. The game kicks off and Yabbie Creek score in the first few minutes. Don notes that will sap their confidence. Trying to work the team up, Adam asks Carly what the team’s nickname is but she says they haven’t got one. Adam notices Lance’s bunyip toy and starts cheering for the “Summer Bay Bunyips”. Soon, all the Summer Bay supporters are cheering for the Bunyips…except Martin, who just has his head in his hands.

Danny goes to see Celia at the store and tells her about Morag asking him to move back in. He says he’s worried about her but will only move back if Celia puts an end to the gossip about them. Celia agrees, saying she knows all the skeletons in the local gossips’ families. Danny then goes round to see Morag and tells her he’s changed his mind.

It’s half-time at the football match. Steven asks Carly where Coral is and she says she’s gone shopping. Steven worries she’ll come back with an electric knife. Don encourages Steven, since they’re only 3-2 down. The game restarts and it’s soon to 3-3.Steven is pushed over in the area and the referee awards a penalty. Steven takes it and, despite looking nervous, scores. The team and supporters celebrate. Everyone heads back to the Diner where Don buys a round of milkshakes. Lance claims part of the credit because of his bunyip mascot. This gives Martin an idea and he runs off. Coral arrives with an electric knife for Pippa. Steven and Carly are horrified, realising Pippa’s receiving stolen goods. Pippa isn’t happy either and quietly tells them she’s taking it back first thing Monday and getting a refund, whether Coral wants her to or not.

A short while later, Pippa and Coral leave. Steven confirms to Carly that he managed to take the knife. He thinks they should ditch it but Carly says they have to take it back and, since she’s working, Steven will have to do it. Steven suggests telling Pippa but Carly doesn’t want her to know her mother’s a thief. Pippa and Coral arrive home and Pippa realises the knife is missing. She assumes she left it at the Diner and says she’ll get it in the morning. Coral worries someone might steal it first but Pippa says people in Summer Bay are honest.

Martin goes to see Celia at the store and tells her he plans to market the bunyips as mascots for the football team. He wonders if her and the Ladies’ Auxiliary could make him a hundred miniature football scarves for the toys. Celia agrees, since they could donate their fee to charity, and tells him they’ll charge him $2 a scarf. Martin refuses, saying he’ll get the scarves another way, even if he and Lance have to make them themselves.

Pippa is on the phone, making enquiries about Steven, who hasn’t come home. Carly says he wasn’t at the Diner. Sally heads round to Lance’s. Coral is dismissive of Steven, saying the youth of today don’t know what they put their parents through. Carly retorts that adults don’t know what they put kids through. In the mobile home, Sally gives Lance some knitting tips for his scarf. Martin is doing better, since he got some advice from his mum. Lance asks Sally never to tell anyone what they’re doing.

Pippa is annoyed that it’s dark and Steven isn’t back and grounds him, despite Carly trying to defend him. The phone rings and, after a shocked conversation, Pippa tells the person on the other end she’ll be there right away. She tells Carly and Coral that Steven has been arrested for shoplifting.
