Martin faces a financial crisis and Coral has some devastating news for the family.
Extended Summary
Coral is lamenting Steven’s arrest for shoplifting but Carly tells her Steven was caught putting back the electric knife she stole for Pippa. Coral acts offended but Pippa and Steven arrive home with two police officers and Carly tells them it was Coral who stole the knife. Coral tells Pippa she’s so sorry.
Martin and Lance are knitting mini bunyip football scarves but Lance keeps dropping stitches. Celia arrives at the mobile home and asks if they know why there is a police car outside the Fletchers’. She doesn’t want them to think she’s a sticky beak! She offers to lower her price to $1.50 per scarf for the ladies’ auxiliary to make them and Martin gives in.
At the Diner, Steven and Carly tell Bobby that Coral is at Yabbie Creek being charged. Bobby says poor Coral but Carly feels sorry for Pippa. Bobby tells them they could have made things easier by handling the situation better and telling Pippa.
Coral and Pippa are back home and Coral is trying to come to terms having been fingerprinted and treated like a common criminal. She admits she’s been stealing for the last 10 years because things became tight when Bert retired! She has to appear in court tomorrow and will never forgive herself for putting Pippa through this.
Bobby grumpily serves Danny a coffee at the Diner the following morning and complains to Carly about Danny moving back in with Morag. Carly says she can’t seriously think there’s something going on between them but Bobby says they deserve each other. She has to go to the store to get some sugar, where Celia tells her she’s barking up the wrong tree about Danny and Morag. Celia points out that Danny refused to move back in at first but Bobby suggests he was holding out to get a better price for his services! Celia is shocked that she could suggest such a thing and says Danny was only listening to his conscience.
Coral is dressed in a jacket and hat ready for court. She worries about the press but Pippa says it’s unlikely to go further than the Summer Bay Courier.
Bobby arrives at Morag’s to apologise to Danny for the way she was acting this morning. She admits she believed the gossip about him and Morag but Celia made her change her mind. Danny asks Bobby if she wants to go and see a movie tonight.
Martin comes into the Diner looking for Steven to try and sell him a football mascot bunyip. Carly tells him that Saturday’s match was the last of the season; nobody will want to buy a mascot now! Martin rushes to the store to tell Celia the deal’s off but Celia won’t let him renege on their agreement!
Steven, Pippa and Coral return from court. Coral has been convicted and got a good behaviour bond. She wants to get home and goes upstairs to pack. Steven apologises to Pippa for not minding his own business but Pippa is glad Coral was caught whilst here and not at home. Coral comes downstairs with her bags later on and asks Steven not to think too badly of her. Steven tells her how he went off the rails when Dodge was around. Coral tells Pippa she’d like to stop somewhere on the way to the bus…
Coral enters the store and gives Celia some money to cover the things she has stolen. Celia is shocked and says she thought it was kids stealing things. Coral says goodbye and leaves. Celia goes and harasses a female customer to make sure she is just looking; you can’t be too careful these days!
At the Diner Bobby is worrying over whether she’s doing the right thing going out with Danny. Donald tells Bobby she’s very attractive and mustn’t lose confidence. Danny arrives to pick up Bobby and they leave together. Donald tells Carly he’s worried Bobby isn’t as tough as she thinks she is but Carly says the date will do her good. Martin’s milkshake fails to cheer him up about the mascots and he goes and burns them. Lance comes along and is amused that Martin is as good as burning money.
Bobby and Danny return to the Diner after dark as it’s a better option than going to Donald’s or Morag’s. Danny wants to know what the issue is between Morag and Bobby but Bobby doesn’t want to talk about it and kisses Danny. Danny suddenly says he can’t do this and hurries out.
