Extended Summary

Matt is at the Diner complaining about Adam. Carly defends Adam because he’s still depressed over the yacht. Lance and Martin come in with posters for the Café de Waves grand opening disco outside the surf club on Friday night but Ailsa tells them it’s forecast to rain and refuses to put up posters advertising the competition. Bobby thinks they may as well go along as they won’t have any customers here.

Rory has packed his bags after discovering he had the wrong Tom and Pippa and wants to give Pippa some money for his food but he has to phone his dad to ask for some money first.

Martin puts one of his posters up at the store. Alf is sceptical about the venture but Celia thinks it’s wonderful. Alf wonders why she wants to help them and Celia winks at Martin. Martin and Celia pester Alf to have the grand opening inside of the surf club because of the weather forecast and he gives in. Martin leaves and Alf wants to know what all the winking was about. Celia reveals she is Lance and Martin’s business partner.

Rory is driving Pippa mad trying to help with the housework when Lance arrives and invites them all to the grand opening. Pippa asks Lance to show Rory around and pushes them out the door.

Matt finds Adam at the Diner and tells him he should be on patrol. Carly asks Adam why he’s so angry with everyone and Adam is surprised she’s talking to him now. Carly tries to invite him to Lance and Martin’s disco but Adam tells her to get off his case and storms out.

Back at the store, Alf thinks Celia is mad for going into business with Lance and Martin. Celia insists she will be having a say in how things are run. Alf asks her if she wants to put Ailsa out of business but Celia says it’s the public’s choice. Danny comes in to buy some flowers and Celia tells him how good it is to see Bobby smiling again.

At the school, Emma tells Steven she wishes she could have seen him dealing with the two guys the other day. She used to think he was a wimp but now she thinks he’s OK. She asks Steven to the dance at the surf club. Steven says maybe he is a wimp, but Emma’s not his type. Emma looks disappointed.

Sally thinks Rory should stay at Summer Bay House until the money comes through from his dad. Steven offers to share his room and Rory offers to pay his way. Pippa doesn’t look keen and says it’s not about the money but Sally tells her she’s outvoted! Rory thanks and hugs bewildered looking Pippa.

Danny brings Bobby the flowers at the Diner and Bobby invites him to the party at the surf club. Viv is wondering why Emma is in a bad mood and Emma moans about Steven being a nerd. Viv sticks up for him and tells Emma how Steven and Dodge helped her when she was in the city. Emma asks if he’s got a girlfriend. Viv thinks he’s pretty keen on her and Emma Viv would be just his type. Viv says not since she’s been hanging out with Emma.

Adam is on duty on the beach and Matt tells him he needs to snap out of it; he doesn’t want anyone drowning because Adam’s feeling sorry for himself. Adam tells Matt he’s welcome to replace him and Matt says not to tempt him. Rory comes along and asks Adam questions about being a lifeguard because he always wanted to be one. Adam tells Matt he’s found him a replacement and walks off!

In the evening, Rory tells Sally and Carly that he’s going to be trained as a lifeguard. Carly is concerned to hear that he’s taking over from Adam. Pippa wants to know what the point is when Rory’s only here for a couple more days but he hadn’t thought about that! The following morning, Rory serves up a rather burnt looking fried breakfast and calls everyone downstairs. Carly complains about how early it is and Pippa tells herself this can’t go on.

It gets dark and starts raining as forecast. Carly asks the others what she should wear to the party. Steven invites Rory who offers to take Sally since she’s begging to go. They arrive at the surf club and the party is in full swing. Carly finds Adam who apologises for the other day and says he feels better now he’s quit his job. Matt tells Adam he should deck him because Rory has never been on a surf board in his life. Lance and Martin are unveiled in their hot dog costumes cooking the complimentary hot dogs on the stage.

Danny picks Bobby and Viv up from the house. Viv has dressed in punk again. At the surf club, Steven tells Viv she looks like something the cat dragged in. He tells her not to fall for Emma but Viv calls him a jerk.

Emma is bored at the Diner but doesn’t want to go to the surf club because she’s not in Viv’s good books and everyone else is freaked out by how she looks. Ailsa says if she wants to make friends perhaps she should make herself less intimidating.

Lance and Martin are sweating in their hot dog costumes. Danny tells Sally he’s got some news; he doesn’t need to talk to his dad any more because he’s no longer sad. Martin passes out. Emma enters wearing a long dress and has her hair down. She says hi to Steven, and Viv looks shocked.
