Extended Summary
Carly waits around outside the men’s shower block. Sally comes along and wonders what she’s doing, thinking she’d be at work. Carly says she took an early break and sends Sally away. At the caravan, Sophie tries to get Bobby and Matt to leave, insisting she just had an accident. They make it clear they’re not going until she tells them the truth. Al emerges from the shower block. Carly stops him and asks him questions about how the shower was, saying they’ve had complaints the water wasn’t hot enough. Al eventually gets tired of her questioning and walks off. Sally watches from around the corner. Sophie admits Al beat her but refuses to tell anyone and says he’ll kill her if he finds Bobby and Matt there. Bobby realises she’s right and she and Matt leave. Seeing Al approaching, Bobby drags Matt to the table where Lance and Marilyn are sitting and strikes up a conversation about how long they should be engaged for, which leaves the pair bemused.
Lance and Marilyn head back to the mobile home. Marilyn seems worried that Martin might try to kill himself over losing Greta, like Romeo and Juliet did. Inside, they find a bloodied knife in the kitchen. Martin comes through; he cut his finger making a sandwich. Marilyn tells him to sit down and she’ll make it for him. Up at the house, Bobby, Carly, Matt and Viv talk over what’s happened with Sophie. Matt thinks they should call the police or Welfare but Bobby says they can’t do anything unless Sophie’s willing to talk. Sally comes in and everyone leaves apart from Carly. Sally asks what she was talking to Al about and Carly repeats the story about the hot water. Sally says she doesn’t like Al and Carly agrees. At the caravan, Sophie manages to convince Al that Bobby and Matt didn’t come to the van. Al tells her to stay out of sight for a day or so and says she’s got nowhere to run to. Sophie seems to agree.
At the Diner, Bobby and Matt discuss the situation, while Ailsa works the counter. Matt asks how Bobby got away from Al and she says she didn’t; it only ended when Al went to jail. She thinks that’s their best bet of getting him and Sophie apart, proving that he’s lying about Fisher killing Shane. Matt agrees to go to the city and talk to his parents. At the Fletchers’ place, Carly has cooked up some leftovers for Tom. Sally says she misses Pippa and wonders if they can go to Coral’s to see her. Tom says he’ll ask when he talks to her on the phone in the morning. He says it’s Sally’s turn to do the dishes. Sally protests there’s no hot water and Carly tells Tom they had some complaints but it’s all right.
Marilyn tidies away Martin’s mess as he sits watching television and tells Lance to give him the last beer. Martin says he’s tired and Marilyn tells him he can have Lance’s bed for the night. Lance agrees because he thinks it means he can sleep with Marilyn, but after Martin’s gone she makes it clear he’s sleeping on the sofa and nothing will happen until they’re married. Next morning, Tom talks to Pippa, who says it’s fine for them to come up. Grant turns up to pay his bill and Tom leaves Sally to talk to Pippa. Carly follows Grant when he leaves, saying she’s taking the washing off the line, but instead she asks him round for dinner that evening, saying she’s there on her own. Sally runs off to tell her friend Genevieve and Carly tells Tom she can’t go with them because she has to work first thing in the morning.
Lance calls out for Martin, who’s still in bed. Marilyn thinks they should roster him off at work until he’s over Greta. Martin comes in and says he feels sick so Marilyn tells him to take the day off. They leave him lying on the couch. Bobby and Viv are having breakfast at home. Viv wonders if Matt will find anything useful. Bobby wonders why Al’s lying and Viv wonders why people believe him. Bobby points out Viv did.
At the Diner, Carly talks to Ailsa about Grant, saying they’re having dinner. Nearby, Marilyn quizzes Andrew about Martin. Andrew is unconcerned but Marilyn feels guilty because she introduced him to Greta. Andrew agrees to talk to him. He heads round the mobile home, where he sits reading a Phantom comic while Martin insists he’s fine, Lance and Marilyn are treating him like he’s ill. Andrew tells him they feel guilty. Martin’s eyes light up at the idea and he starts telling Andrew that he’s just been covering up and is upset really.
Sally asks Tom when they’ll be back from the city the next day. Tom says it’ll be mid-afternoon. Sally says Genevieve has invited her to go horse riding in the morning and asks if she can stay. Tom agrees, saying Carly can look after her. Carly protests, pointing out she’s got to work, but Tom says Sally can sit with her at the Diner. Martin goes to see Lance and Marilyn at the hot dog stand and tells them he’s spoken to Andrew and needs to stay off work while he gets over Greta. Marilyn is happy to give him time off.
Carly makes a last ditch attempt to convince Sally to go with Tom, pointing out she’ll see Pippa and Christopher. Tom comes along and reassures Sally that Pippa won’t mind her not going, heading off to collect Steven from Andrew’s. Viv shows up at the Diner looking for Steven. Bobby sees she’s upset and asks what’s wrong. Viv says she’s worried she’ll have to go away if Fisher is found guilty and she doesn’t want to leave. Bobby hugs her.
