Ailsa realises Martin is as depressed as he seems. Youth and Community Services have some distressing news for the Fisher household.
Extended Summary
Fisher, Bobby and Viv are discussing Viv’s situation over coffee at the house. Fisher doesn’t think welfare will wait until the verdict of the court case to make a decision about Viv. Bobby makes a cryptic comment that things won’t go on for that long, and Fisher wants to know what she’s up to. Bobby says Matt has gone to the city to speak to his parents.
Martin places a big order at the Diner and Ailsa is glad to see he’s feeling better after breaking up with Greta. Martin claims it has hit him hard but he’s just trying to soldier on. Three young women come in, looking for seats, and join Martin who doesn’t look too devastated.
Carly is cooking dinner for Grant and offers to do the washing up for three nights if Sally agrees to have her dinner and go to bed so the two of them can be alone. Sally bargains with her for a whole week.
Living Without Your Love is playing on the Diner jukebox as the girls tell Martin that the Sands Resort is full of boring, middle aged yuppies. He offers to pay their bill and take them to the Midnight Swing. Bobby has had a call from Matt who is bringing some of Shane’s stuff back with him tomorrow. Ailsa doesn’t want her to get her hopes up.
Carly is trying to get Sally to eat faster when Grant arrives. Carly tries to send Sally to bed but she asks why she can’t have some of what they’re having. Grant says he doesn’t mind sharing and Carly doesn’t look impressed.
Marilyn and Lance are closing up the hot dog stand and Marilyn is worried about Martin’s heartbreak while Lance complains about how busy they were without him.
Grant apologises to Carly; he forgot to tell her he’s a vegetarian! Sally decides she’s now vegetarian too and she and Grant tuck into the salad. Carly tries to ask Grant about his background but Sally keeps interrupting her and Grant humours Sally.
Viv wonders when she will be taken away. There’s a knock at the door and Fisher answers it to John Rodd from the Department of Education. He tells Fisher they’ve been expecting to hear from him.
Carly insists it’s time for Sally to go to bed and refuses to read to her. Grant suggests Sally read him a chapter of her book and she goes to get ready for bed. Carly apologises for Sally but Grant says she’s a nice kid. Later, Grant comes back downstairs and says they read four chapters. Carly is desperate for him to stay for dessert but Grant is tired from training and leaves. Carly says she’s going to kill Sally!
Bobby arrives home and Fisher tells her he’s been suspended from Summer Bay High.
Lance gets up the next morning and Marilyn wakes up on the couch. Lance tells her Martin isn’t here and Marilyn worries something awful has happened to him. She insists Lance come with her to look for him.
Sally is enthusing about Grant over breakfast. Carly says their deal for her to wash the dishes is off but Sally doesn’t mind as she had a great time last night! Sally is going horse riding for the day and Carly is delighted. She goes to Grant’s caravan and suggests they go to the beach but Sally appears… they arranged last night for Grant to go riding with her!
Bobby and Viv discuss Fisher’s suspension over breakfast and Viv is still worried about being sent away. She starts to cry.
Martin and one of the girls, Jenny, are all over each other at the beach. Jenny says that was some night last night and asks what the agenda is for today. Martin spots Lance and Marilyn and tells Jenny he has to work today but will call her. Lance and Marilyn find Martin and he pretends to still be pining for Greta.
Bobby and Ailsa are opening up the Diner and Bobby thinks Fisher should fight his suspension. Everyone keeps forgetting he’s innocent, including Fisher. Ailsa warns her that things could get a lot worse before they get better. Back at the house, Fisher puts the phone down and tells Viv that she has to go to a halfway house in the city today. He’s so sorry.
