Matt comes face to face with the violence that lurks behind Al Simpson’s façade. Fisher is powerless to stop Viv being taken to her new foster home.
Extended Summary
Fisher, Adam, Alf, Tom and Bobby are out looking for Steven and Viv where they went camping before. Matt is at the Diner, putting off going home because it’s a mess. Celia arrives to help in this time of crisis. Carly isn’t too concerned as Steven and Viv aren’t in any danger but Celia says they are in grave moral danger. She makes it clear that she doesn’t think much of Matt not helping with the search.
Steven is losing blood on the cliff ledge. Viv tightens the bandage on his leg and starts to cry; this is all Simpson’s fault. In their caravan, Al tells Sophie he’s sorry about her latest bruise but she needs to learn where her loyalties lie. The people out there aren’t nice. He’s going to the Diner for breakfast and locks Sophie in the caravan, warning her not to talk to anyone.
The search party finds Steven and Viv’s names carved in a tree, but is it from last time they were there? Steven suggests Viv try to climb up the cliff and then he blacks out.
Al arrives at the Diner and Matt tells Carly to keep him here so he can go and speak to Sophie. He enters the caravan, Sally having given him the key. Sophie tells Matt not to get involved and wants him to leave but Matt wants to talk. Back at the Diner, Celia spots Al and tells him he’s not welcome here. Carly tries to rescue the situation but Al leaves.
The searchers arrive back at the car. Fisher looks at the map and they plan one more area to search. Viv cradles the unconscious Steven in her arms and calls for help.
Matt says Al is an animal but Sophie says the last year has been heaven compared to what she’s used to and she’s got nowhere else to go. Matt points out that Bobby got away from him but Sophie says Al isn’t finished with Bobby… you can never get away from him. Al finds Matt leaving the caravan park when he returns and claims Sophie is still sick. He warns Matt to stop interfering.
While Viv calls out for help, Adam, Bobby and Fisher find the tent. Adam thinks they should leave them alone but Fisher hears Viv calling for help. They follow the sound to the edge of the cliff and Fisher sends Adam and Bobby for help. Rescuers arrive and abseil down the cliff with a stretcher. Viv and Steven are pulled to safety.
Matt is at home, boxing up Shane’s comics and things. There was nothing helpful. Adam arrives and tells him about the rescue. Adam is looking for a new place to live and Matt agrees to let him move in.
Fisher, Viv and Bobby arrive home. Viv is desperate to go to the hospital to see Steven but Fisher and Bobby insist she rest. Fisher gets a phone call from Mr. West. He asks if Viv can’t at least stay here for tonight but things don’t look good.
At Summer Bay House, Tom is on the phone to Pippa, assuring her that Steven is OK. He has a compound fracture. Alf is driving Tom to the hospital.
There is a knock at the door at Fisher’s and Bobby tells the invisible Mr. West that Viv will be out in a minute. Viv has a suitcase packed. She tells Fisher she doesn’t blame him for what’s happened; he’s been a real father to her. Fisher tells her to try to be happy and make the most of everything. Bobby and Fisher hug her and she leaves in tears.
