Emma quits the football team and Steven buys Sophie a useful gift.
Extended Summary
Pippa is watching as the touch footie team prepare for a practise session. She warns Tom and Steven to stop if it gets too much for either of them. Bobby says Adam and Emma aren’t there but Tom tells her Adam’s ill and Emma’s probably looking after him. Bobby is annoyed that neither of them have turned up, since it undermines her election campaign. Tom sends the team, which includes Matt and Viv, off on a lap round the oval, with Steven hobbling at the back. At the beach house, Adam and Emma are arguing while Melody’s in the shower. Adam asks Emma to help with the washing up but she points out she didn’t eat anything. She heads off to footie practise and Adam goes with her, saying Melody can do the washing up. At the oval, Steven is sitting with Pippa while the rest of the team have a practise game. Tom calls time, just as Adam and Emma turn up. Neither Tom nor Bobby is happy about them turning up late. Bobby ends up arguing with Emma, which results in Emma quitting the team. Matt blames Adam for hanging around Melody but Tom advises them all to drop the matter while they’ve still got a team.
Next morning, Bobby runs into Emma on the beach. Bobby apologises for coming down hard on her but Emma refuses to return to the team, saying she doesn’t care about the oval and isn’t into teams. At the caravan park house, Pippa asks Steven about his leg and Tom suggests he goes down the hospital for a check-up. Pippa and Carly leave to go to the dress shop. Sophie turns the television on and Sally checks the schedules and realises Sesame Street is on next. Steven tries to take Sally down the beach but Sally mocks Sophie for watching a children’s show and Sophie turns the television off, upset. Annoyed, Steven drags Sally out. Pippa, Carly and the shop assistant check the material Carly wants in the light outside the dress shop. Pippa is worried it will be too bright but Carly and the assistant both like it so Pippa agrees.
At the Diner, Bobby moans to Matt, Adam and Steven about Emma. Emma and Viv arrive. Matt tries to change Emma’s mind about quitting but Adam says they’re better off with less girls, since guys are fitter than girls and better at footie. The comment soon has Bobby, Emma and Viv annoyed and they end up challenging the boys to a game the following morning. Steven points out he won’t be able to play but Adam and Matt are still confident of victory. Soon after, Steven is telling Viv about what happened with Sophie. Viv suggests they get her a television set for her room. Steven recalls seeing one in a second hand shop. By the counter, Emma tells Bobby she was wound up about Adam and Melody and apologises for blowing up at her. Bobby said it reminded her of what she used to be like. Steven and Viv take Emma with them to look at the TV set. They need to raise $90 to buy it. Emma quickly arranges for her and Viv to wash cars for $5 a time while Steven gives wind surfing lessons for $15.
At the caravan park house, Pippa, Carly, Sophie and Sally are working on making the dresses. Sally cuts around a pattern but realises she’s made a mistake and cut through five pieces instead of four. Carly is furious with her, since they won’t have enough material to make all the dresses, and shouts at her to get out. Later, Pippa goes to see Carly in her room and tells her that she was too hard on Sally and they don’t want the old Carly back. Carly says she wanted everything to be perfect. Pippa tells her that the bridesmaids can still have the same dresses and they can make a smaller flower girl dress for Sally. Carly tracks Sally down to the beach and apologises for shouting at her. Sally, however, says she’s fed up of Carly being nasty to people when she doesn’t get her own way and doesn’t want to be her flower girl anymore.
Matt and Adam arrive home and Matt complains that Melody’s left the place in a mess. Adam promises to talk to her. Matt isn’t happy about Adam arranging the game with the girls either, saying they’ll be insufferable if they win. At the Diner, Steven, Viv and Emma count their earnings and find they have $102. Bobby comes over and Emma and Viv tell her she’ll soon be captain of the footie team. This is news to Steven and Bobby sends him away while they talk tactics, despite him pointing out he’s not playing. After collecting the television, Steven goes round to see Adam and Matt and tells them about the girls wanting Bobby as captain, telling Adam he’ll need to turn up to training if he wants the job. Adam and Steven are confident they’ll beat the girls but Matt isn’t so sure. Adam rounds up the boys for a practise. Emma and Viv happen along and Viv is annoyed to see Steven coaching the team.
Steven returns home and asks Pippa if Sophie’s arrived home yet. Pippa reminds him Celia’s coming for dinner. Sophie arrives and Pippa says there’s something for her in her room. Sophie goes up and finds the television. She is delighted and tells Steven it’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for her. Steven says she’s part of the family. Downstairs, Sally arrives home and asks to speak to Carly alone. Pippa goes outside. Sally says she’ll be flower girl if Carly promises not to shout at anyone, not to spend money she hasn’t got and to be nice to them. Carly agrees and hugs her.
