Episode 537

Extended Summary

Marilyn is driving Alf mad fussing about a spot when he wants to shut up shop for the day. Grant, Donald and Bobby arrive and Bobby accuses Alf of putting up the “meeting closed” sign at the surf club. Alf denies it and says he wouldn’t need to do that; everyone knows Bobby doesn’t stand a chance of being elected.

At the beach house, Adam and Matt wonder how they’re going to pay for the new lino. Marilyn arrives home and isn’t impressed with all the washing up after the day she’s had. She’s going to have to take a sickie tomorrow because of the spot on her face! The boys send her to relax and they will bring her dinner. Adam has ordered pizza… he was hoping Marilyn could shout them for it!

Bobby is eating breakfast the following morning when Donald surfaces and tells her she owes Alf an apology. Bobby can’t think who else might have sabotaged the meeting.

Pippa is dusting at Summer Bay House and Carly leaves to go shopping. Sally gives Pippa a hug and thinks Carly and Steven are selfish for leaving when Pippa needs help. Pippa says Viv needs Steven’s help more than she does and Sally asks why the police can’t find Tammy. Pippa says she’s probably hiding because she’s frightened of all grownups, thinking they’re all like her dad. Sally says she was lucky to have a dad like Tom, even though she didn’t have him for very long.

Marilyn screams as she discovers she’s covered in spots. The doctor arrives and confirms it’s chickenpox. She will need at least a couple of days off work but doesn’t have any sick leave and Adam worries how they’re going to pay the rent. Marilyn wants to know who’s going to take the first shift looking after her! Adam makes a quick exit to see if he can cover for Marilyn at the store. Matt says he’s never had chickenpox.

Alf refuses to let Adam work at the store. Bobby is buying supplies for the Diner and Alf is short with her. Bobby apologises for last night. Alf accepts the apology and wonders who put the sign up; he doesn’t need that kind of support. Bobby gives Adam some orders; it looks like he’s hired!

Carly arrives home with the groceries and the curtains she wanted. Pippa is shocked to learn she spent $200 on them.

Matt is wearing a bandana over his face to try and prevent catching chickenpox. He laments being landed with nursing duties on his two days off.

Carly has hung the curtains. Ben arrives home and is impressed. He says Carly is a regular little bargain hunter!

Steven and Sally are cleaning a caravan and talking about Tammy when Sally discovers Tammy inside. Tammy begs Sally not to tell Steven she’s here. Sally offers to finish cleaning the caravan to get rid of Steven.

Pippa tells Carly to make sure she tells Ben the truth about the curtains. Steven comes in and announces he’s going to help Viv look for Tammy. He says Ben is handling things well; he thought he’d chuck a mental when he found out the curtains cost $200. Ben looks horrified.

Back at the caravan, Tammy tells Sally how she got on the bus without a ticket. Sally says she stole some money when she ran away. Tammy says she stole a paperweight once and her father locked her in the cupboard. Tammy is hungry and Sally offers to go and get some food for her. She thinks Pippa would know what to do but Tammy threatens to run away again if Sally tells her.

Ben is insisting Carly return the curtains when Sally comes in for the food. Ben stomps off and Pippa tells Carly that Ben has every right to be annoyed with her. Carly goes and apologises to Ben. Ben relents and agrees to keep the curtains.

Sally returns to the caravan with biscuits for Tammy and tells her that she won’t be able to stay here tonight because new tenants are arriving. She offers to show her where Viv lives, but the police will be looking for her. Tammy says Sally could find Viv for her but she doesn’t want anyone else to know. Only Viv knows what living with that man is like. She tells Sally she has to help her.
