Bobby finds out the true meaning of the words ‘double-dating’. Adam is determined to win back Emma.
Extended Summary
Bobby is at Summer Bay House getting Pippa’s advice on what to wear to lunch. She is about to call Geoff to cancel but Pippa talks her out of it. She tells her Geoff is probably just as nervous as she is and there’s no obligation to see him again if she doesn’t want to. She might even like him!
At the beach, Steven thinks he should go and explain things to Adam after his outburst. Emma says Adam doesn’t care about anyone else but Steven points out that Adam wouldn’t have carried on like that if he didn’t care about Emma. Paul catches up with them and says perhaps they’ll see more of each other now Emma is back. Emma says that would be great.
At the beach house, Adam tells Matt and Marilyn how he found Steven all over Emma. Marilyn doesn’t think he would be unfaithful to Viv. Matt wants to know what exactly they were doing and Adam says they were laughing… but it was the way they were laughing! He says the Karate Kid can have her.
Bobby finally leaves for lunch with Geoff. Sophie arrives home and wonders why Bobby was all dressed up but Pippa doesn’t give anything away. Bobby arrives at the Sands restaurant and is shown to a table. A man shows up… but it’s not Geoff. Bobby waits nervously.
At the Diner, Emma complains about how quickly Steven has memorized the driver’s handbook. Paul flirts with Emma, telling her he thinks she’s really bright. He’s not planning to get his licence as his mum doesn’t have money for lessons, let alone a car. Emma tells him to get someone he knows to give him lessons but Paul isn’t that obsessed about driving. Emma is surprised as most guys can’t wait. Steven leaves and Emma and Paul smile at each other.
Steven arrives at the beach house looking for Adam but Marilyn and Matt don’t know where he is. Steven explains that Emma was just helping him read the road rules. Emma needs a lot of support but Adam doesn’t seem to care. Matt asks Steven to hang around so they can sort it out when Adam gets home.
The restaurant is emptying out and the waiter tells Bobby the kitchen is closing now. Bobby says it looks like she’s been stood up. Pippa tries to make her feel better at the Diner in the evening. She suggests calling the other guy, Chris, but Bobby is quitting while she still has some dignity left.
Grant comes to the house to see Pippa but she’s not there. He decides to wait and tries to convince Sophie again to perform her song the amateur night. Pippa comes home to hear Sophie bite Grant’s head off; she doesn’t want to be in his stupid amateur night. Pippa wants to know what’s going on.
Steven has dinner with Adam, Marilyn and Matt. Adam has accepted his explanation wonders how to apologise to Emma. Steven offers to suss her out for him.
Paul talks to Carly about Emma at the Diner. He thought she was up herself but she’s actually really nice. Carly asks if he fancies her and Paul makes a quick exit. Carly tells Bobby she’s glad she has Ben and doesn’t have the hassle of trying to find a decent guy. This prompts Bobby to go into the kitchen and look at her profiles from the dating agency. She makes a phone call to Chris Reynolds and they arrange to meet for lunch tomorrow.
Grant plays Sophie’s song for Pippa as she hooks up a gas cylinder to a caravan the next day. Pippa is impressed. Grant plans to get Sophie involved behind the scenes in hopes she sees the other kids are nervous as well, and he suggests some encouragement from a neutral person, i.e. Pippa.
Bobby tells Carly she’s going to the dentist and leaves the Diner. Emma is sitting at the counter and Carly tells her she has a secret admirer in Paul; the boy is obviously in love. Steven arrives and comments how happy Emma looks. He tells her he has a message from someone who is desperate to go out with her. Emma assumes he’s talking about Paul and agrees to go out with him! Steven says he’ll get him to meet her here in an hour.
Bobby arrives at the restaurant (again) and this time Chris is waiting for her with flowers. He orders some champagne and they smile at each other.
Over lunch, Pippa tries to persuade Sophie to sing her song at the amateur night; nobody is going to laugh at her. She asks her to think about it as it would mean a lot to Grant and he’s done a lot for her. Sophie goes and finds Grant meditating. She offers to help but not sing.
Adam is getting ready to go and meet Emma, and Matt lends him his favourite shirt. Adam says he’s never gone to this much trouble for anyone before. Emma is waiting at the Diner and Carly asks her if she’s going to tell Adam; it might make him jealous. Adam arrives with a bunch of roses and hands them to Emma. He apologises for the way he’s been treating her and thanks her for giving him another chance. Emma realises what’s going on and looks disappointed.
Bobby and Chris are getting to know each other at the restaurant and toast a promising friendship. However, Geoff arrives and introduces himself to Bobby! Embarrassed, Bobby points out they were supposed to meet yesterday. Geoff laughs; he’s done it again! He introduces himself to Chris and pulls a chair up to the table. Things couldn’t be more awkward.
