Ernie Jacobs has some bad news for Matt, Marilyn and Adam. Grant finds romance in Summer Bay.
Extended Summary
Marilyn helps support Bobby’s political campaign in an effort to prevent her landlord Ernie Jacobs from evicting her, Matt and Adam from their house and renting the house to other tenants. Although Alf wants her vote too!
Adam and Matt try their best to unstick Ernie’s plans through a series of tricks, including faking rising damp and a contaminated water supply.
Matt pretends to have a mix of bronchitis and asthma due to the toxic problems with the house. His efforts are a little over-dramatic but do the trick to unsettle the potential new tenants.
Grant sets his sights on new face Jane, although he finds it more difficult than he expects. Despite threats to break his arm he can’t help himself. Ben tries to convince Jane to give grant another chance, but Carly sees them talking and suspects the worst.
Jane also takes a look at the Beach House but is undeterred by Matt and Adam’s efforts. Nevertheless she takes an instant dislike to Ernie, and feels the house is too big for her.
Bobby suggests that Ben avoid Carly until she’s calmed down before reassuring her
Jane apologises for being short with Grant earlier in the day but appears secretive about what brought her to the area. She even agrees to dinner with him later in the evening.
Marilyn is conflicted over who to vote for in the election now that she has become ‘Politically Aware’ as she agrees with both Bobby and Alf’s policies.
Matt and Adam convince Ernie to let them keep the house despite a rent increase. However, later Ernie doesn’t agree to stand by his verbal contract and tells Marilyn and the boys that a young couple had agreed to take the property, paying 6 months rent in advance.
Donald tries to convince Bobby to join forces with Alf so that they have a better chance against Ernie. Initially they come to an arrangement, but when Alf suggests that he stand as their frontman she refuses and goes back to stand alone.
Jane and Carly meet and Jane explains that there is nothing going on between her and Ben, and that in fact she’s going to dinner with Grant. Carly meets Ben to apologises for being jealous.
Grant and Jane head for their meal, but he admits that he’ll be nervous throughout. He tells her he can’t think about anything but kissing her and he doesn’t want to mess up their date by having his mind elsewhere. Luckily for him Jane agrees to kiss him before they even get to the restaurant!
