Marilyn lets information which could destroy Ernie Jacobs’ political career slip through her fingers. Fisher decides to expel Emma.
Extended Summary
Although Bobby believes Emma didn’t steal the History exam paper she has a hard time convincing both Grant and especially Donald.
Adam and Matt offer to help Bobby prepare for her political campaign against Ernie, although both they and Carly admit they believe she has a slim chance of winning.
Jane visits summer bay house to help Sophie with her science project, but runs into Grant who comes over to pay rent for the caravan.
At summer bay high both Bobby and Ernie set up their stands to promote their individual campaigns, however Ernie spends most of his time goading and patronising Bobby. Nevertheless Donald tells her he’s very proud of her.
Donald visits Pippa to offer a lift back to the school to vote in the election. Ailsa suprises Pippa by visiting her for the first time since her return. She is surprised to see Donald there too and asks him whether he’s yet arrived at a decision about Emma. Ailsa becomes upset when she realises that Donald has already made up his mind but refuses to tell her until school on Monday. Due to the tension Donald leaves, suggesting that perhaps ailsa could take Pippa to the school.
Sophie and Jane return to her caravan after their trip to the tip to discuss the plan for Sophie’s science project. The conversation moves onto Grant, but Jane is reluctant to talk about him. Sophie says that Grant is very popular with the girls at school, and as a result they are very jealous of Jane. She tries to make Sophie concentrate on her work, but discovers from her that Grant was also coy regarding his profession when he first arrived in the area.
At the school Ernie is having greater success in leafleting. Adam, Matt and Marilyn have learned that Ernie is going to renew the lease for them on the beach house. Marilyn refuses to discuss how she managed to twist Ernie’s arm, and they even suggest she may have slept with him. As Pippa and Ailsa arrive at the school Ernie continues to make jibes at Bobby and her chance of being elected.
Donald and Pippa discuss the problem with Emma over a coffee at summer bay house, as Donald decides he has to make an example of her apparent behaviour. Pippa explains the effect such an event would have on Ailsa, as it would be a reflection on her as a parent. She asks him to consider Ailsa’s feelings and draws a parallel with Bobby.
At the diner Vicky makes trouble with Emma and Carly.
Jane comes over to Grant’s caravan and explains that she didn’t tell him that she was a police officer because it often puts off men she meets. Grant persists and says she should have told him what she did, opening himself up to accusations of hypocrisy. Later back at Jane’s caravan Grant comes over to apologise, offering her dinner
At Alf’s store he tells Donald that he voted for Bobby, but that there’s no hard feelings, whatever the decision about Emma. Donald admits that he’s changed his mind and decided to give her another chance. Unfortunately, enraged Emma finds Vicky as she waits for a bus and fights her to the ground just as Donald drives past.
In the diner Marilyn tells both Adam and Matt, and Bobby and Carly how she worked out the lease with Ernie, confessing to blackmailing him! It turns out she found a letter of his from the Thomas group, overseeing the development of The Oval playing ground.
Donald visits Alf and Ailsa to discuss the trouble with Emma. They already believe she is being given a second chance, however Donald has changed his mind following her most recent behaviour.
