Extended Summary
Fisher pays Pippa a visit and talks about his problems with Angel. He tells her he thought by offering her a permanent home would be an end to her problems but she flew off the handle. They laugh about how Angel and Bobby appear to have the same independence and he’s beginning to think he’s too old to cope with the sort of pressures now. Luke comes in looking for Fin and tells them of his decision to send Bill away. Fisher agrees but when Sally says Fin’s not going to like it, both Pippa and Luke agree it’s got nothing to do with her. Luke comments that Fin has made the situation worse. Bill’s down the Surf Club looking very unhappy and Tug is also miserable. Adam tries to play match-maker for Tug but he’s not interested. He insists Sarah’s the only girl for him, so Adam offers him a piece of advice. Instead of making a nuisance of himself every time he sees Sarah, he should play it cool and ignore her. That will unsettle her, so when he goes to the Diner and finds Sarah there, he ignores her and Adam’s advice was right. She’s sitting at the counter with Angel and Shane and doesn’t like him ignoring her. Adam comes in and Tug tells him he thinks his advice is working on Sarah. He goes over to the counter to order some food and overhears Ailsa’s going to be short-handed for a while and offers his services but Angel is interested too. Things get heated, so Ailsa tells them to come back in the evening for a try out. Adam is confident he’ll get the job but Angel’s desperate to get it otherwise she may have to return to living on the streets. Back at Fisher’s, Shane and Angel argue over her lack of experience and Fisher tells her she doesn’t have to leave but she’s determined to support herself. Shane thinks a game of pool will relax her, so they go down to the Surf Club. Tug’s playing on the pin-ball machine, still ignoring Sarah and it’s still unsettling her. Shane plays dirty in his quest to give Angel a fighting chance for the job, by hiding the kiosk keys, to stop Adam turning up but he nearly gets sprung by Angel.
Bill meets Fin on the beach and tells her about Luke decision to send him to stay with an Aunt and she is shocked. Back at the van, Luke admits to Pippa he doesn’t want to send Bill away but Fin’s influence has forced him to take drastic measures to protect Bill. Pippa asks if he’s explained to Bill why he’s so against his friendship with Fin and when he says he’s tried to tell him, he just doesn’t understand. She then says it sounds like he’s taking the easy option rather than talking to him. He ponders her words of advice. When Bill returns home, the tension is very strained and Luke tries again to talk to him. He tries to explain how relationships work but it’s hard going but at least they don’t argue this time. Luke tells him he’s reconsidering his plan to send him away and when he suggests they go and see a movie, Bill tells him he’s already made plans to see Fin. Bill goes over to tell Fin he may not be leaving after all and asks if he can stay to watch a Mel Gibson film on the television. Worried about what Michael will say when he returns, Fin suggests they go with Sally down to the store instead. As Sally talks to Alf about what she needs, Bill steals a box of chocolates for Fin because he’s left his money behind but gets caught by Tug. Fin’s horrified and pleads with Alf to let him off, so he gives Bill a stern warning not to do it again and she takes him out. Sally pays for her goods and after she leaves, Tug tells Alf he thinks he’s going soft. Alf tells him he knows he’s going through a bad patch with Sarah and taking it out on anyone who gets in his way but insists, when he works in the store, he leaves his bad moods at home.
Adam has to ring Ailsa to tell her about the missing keys and that it would be irresponsible of him to leave the kiosk unlocked. She not impressed and Angel starts her trial run and she thinks she’s doing well but she keeps getting the orders mixed up and Shane covers for her. One kid starts mouthing off about it and Shane threatens him with violence, if he doesn’t shut up. Ailsa offers her the job as Adam didn’t appear. He’s still looking for the keys and Shane goes round to tell him about Angel’s success. Alf comes in with supplies and when he sees Luke playing pool, he tells him about the trouble at the store. Luke’s not happy when Fin’s name is mentioned and is more convinced that Bill’s crush on her is the root of all his brother’s problems. Having found the keys, Adam races over to the Diner to plead with Ailsa to give him a chance but she refuses. When he goes on about the missing keys, it doesn’t take Angel long to realise that Shane was to blame and she races off home to confront him.
It ends with her forcing Shane to admit to his wrong doing and she calls him a worm. She says why can’t he get himself a life, so he can stay out of hers. You have to feel sorry for him because every time he tries to help her, it always backfires…
