Alf doesn’t discover the leaking waterbed until it’s too late! Michael and Fin come to grips with Haydn’s sudden departure.
Extended Summary
Fin sees the envelopes on the mantelpiece and reads the letter. She is very hurt as Haydn has said that he is gone for good and he does not want her to lie and protect him. Deep down, he wants to gamble. Pip returns from her shopping with Sam. She says she has heard about Haydn cooking lunch for them. Fin shows her the letter.
Nick heads off to the doctor for his headaches and is told to get a week off work. He has informed his employer who told him to take another week off work. Ailsa suggests he go fishing and that Alf would give him his fishing rod. Alf hands Nick his favourite rod and hands Luke his other one. He tells them that fishing is not about what you catch, but how long it takes you to catch a fish; time stands still and you don’t get older.
Michael returns home and is given a letter from Pip; he is furious and threatens to kill him. He gives out and she tells him to calm down. He complains about him getting away with it and what the people in the Bay may thinking of him taking his ‘no-good’ son back into the Bay. Pip tries to help him but he heads off to work.
Irene is at work and is getting impatient as Tug is late and she wants to get ready for Haydn’s lunch. She arrives at the Rosses and asks what is he cooking. She asks what is the matter and is told that he has gone. She panics, and says that Fin is pregnant and gives out to Michael for letting him get way with far too much. Fin tells her she is not pregnant and Irene continues giving out; at this point, Fin shouts at her telling her to shut up. Fin leaves and Pip hands Irene the letter, saying that it would make things clearer.
Nick and Luke go out fishing. Just after they leave the car, an elderly women crosses the road and the oncoming car does not slow down. She panics and screams. Nick asks Luke to check her and he gives out to the driver. Luke tells Nick to take it easy. They are now fishing, but Nick does not seem to like it. He tells Luke they should leave, and Luke says they only got there. They go to Alf’s shop to return the rods. Nick just remembers that there is a pile of paperwork he was meant to have done before his leave. Luke tells him to forget it and reminds that an unfit worker would have more chance of leaving the force, and he should relax.
Irene finds Fin at the beach and apologises for jumping to conclusions. She asks her what is she going to do and asks her does she love him. Fin asks her which Haydn is she referring to: the one who is himself or the one who gambles. Sam is at the beach and asks Fin would she be going to the city with him. He tells her that Michael says that they are better off without him. He mentions that he likes him because he was funny, but he told a lot of lies.
Shane and Damian fill the bed with water and are glad the job is done. They go out for burgers and while they are at the Diner, the patch loosens on the bed. Water spurts out and fills the wooden base. They return and eat their burgers while the bed is leaking. Shane and Damian head to the room to tidy up and notice water has come out. They start working, using buckets to take water out!
They decide to tidy up and cover up the bed before leaving. They go to Alf’s shop and whisper to Tug to ask him about his mood. Tug asks them why are they whispering and he tells them that Alf is not here: he has gone over to check on them. They panic and Tug says he remembers Alf saying something about ripping their heads off if they screwed up!
Alf comes home and checks for Damian and Shane. They are not there and he goes onto his bed. Just as he lies back, there is a sound of splashing water. He gets soaked and is steaming…
