Ken humiliates himself and his kids when he is late for his job interview. Marilyn finds support in James. Jesse is threatened over going to the police.
Extended Summary
Ken asks Will if he can watch him surf. Hayley also decides that she would like to go surfing. At the beach, everyone tries surfing – even Ken – and they have a great day as a family. Ken becomes increasingly nervous about the groundskeeper’s job interview because the kids’ expectations are running so high. On the day of the interview, Ken takes a walk and falls asleep on the beach. He wakes up late for his interview with Fisher.
The police march Wazza and the rest of the car gang out of the car-stripping garage. Joel as he is still suspended lets Terri arrest them. Jesse decides that Joel can let Wazza and the others know that he was the informant. As they will eventually discover it
At home, Jesse reveals to Sally and Vinnie that Wazza threatened Rachel to blackmail him into stealing cars. Jesse chastises himself for not having gone to Joel in the first place. Later, Gypsy tells Jesse that Joel thinks he did the right thing and she knows about him being blackmailed. Gypsy then aggressively pursues Jesse for a date. Jesse doesn’t commit to a time, but says that they could have a coffee some time. Whilst they are talking in the Diner, Wazza – who’s been freed on bail – threatens Jesse. Before things get violent, Terri hauls Wazza away and charges him with breaching his bail conditions by threatening a witness.
Vinnie at the last moment makes an unsuccessful, attempt to finish On the Crest of the Wave, written by Donald Fisher’s son Alan. The book paints a less-than-attractive picture of Fisher as a father. It appears that Vinnie and Don are destined to be at each other’s throats over its contents.
Fisher suggests that Marilyn take Byron for a check-up at the hospital. Marilyn is worried about the responsibility. Fisher insists, saying that it would be good for her. Sam moans about them running out of Ellen’s home baked biscuits. Fisher takes Sam aside and tells him to be sensitive with Marilyn – she felt that she couldn’t compete with Ellen. James when he has finished examining Byron asks how Marilyn is. Marilyn breaks down in tears She is touched that James has shown some concern for her, as everyone has been focused on the baby. James explains to Marilyn about how serious post-natal depression is. Marilyn says that Fisher wouldn’t understand. James says that he and Marilyn will go and see Fisher together.
James and Marilyn go to see Fisher where they discuss Marilyn’s condition. James says he and Marilyn have discussed counselling. James emphasises that Fisher needs to understand what’s going on, and Fisher is sympathetic towards Marilyn.
Terri takes Duncan home and Alf gives a lecture to Duncan. Alf admits to Terri that they’ve been having problems. He holds the police responsible when Terri tells him that Duncan was found in the car thieves’ shed. After Terri leaves, Duncan tells Alf that Alf is reason why he is unhappy.
