Extended Summary
Ken phones Fisher and says that the reason he missed the interview was because he fell asleep. Fisher is not impressed, but agrees to re-schedule for later that day. During the interview, Fisher realises that Ken is drunk and he tells him that there is no job. Ken becomes aggressive, saying that Fisher doesn’t understand how important the job is. Fisher threatens to call the police if Ken doesn’t leave. Ken storms out of Fisher’s office and then enters Will and Hayley’s class. Ken tries to explain to the kids that it wasn’t his fault for not getting the job. Fisher orders Ken out of the classroom. Ken finally agrees, then leaves, apologising to his kids.
Will and Hayley are utterly ashamed of their father. Later, Irene has a chat with Ken. She tells him that she was exactly like him eight years ago – an alcoholic in need of help. Ken storms off to get even more drunk. Later, Will tells Irene that he knew his father wouldn’t change. Irene tries to explain the reason for Ken’s behaviour, but Will tells her not to make excuses for Ken that he doesn’t deserve it. Sally while with Vinnie driving her new car runs a drunk Ken over. At Yabbie Creek Hospital , James informs Sally and Vinnie that Ken is fine, but needs to be kept under observation. Will will not go to visit Ken at the hospital, saying that he won’t fall for his father’s tricks again. Meanwhile, Sally is distraught. Vinnie tells her that he believes Ken walked in front of the car on purpose.
James recommends that Marilyn undertake some counselling for her post-natal depression. Marilyn realises that she is not to be blamed totally for leaving and is relieved that Fisher is being so understanding and tolerant of the severity of the condition. At home, Marilyn thanks Fisher for being so good to her. Fisher says that he didn’t know how serious post-natal depression was. He then admits that he thought that the real trouble was his age. Marilyn explains that he is a stupid man if he doesn’t know that she loves him. They embrace and there is a glimpse of romance between them again. Marilyn promises never to leave again.
Gypsy goes to see Jesse at home. They get amorous, but Jesse quickly breaks it off – he is worried about their age difference. Gypsy is quite aggressive and refuses to give up on him so easily. Jesse wants to take it a bit slower. Gypsy leaves, impatient with him.
Fisher starts teaching Alan’s book and finds that the students hate the father character. He asks Vinnie for his opinion but Vinnie has nothing to say!
