Will Justine be charged with child abuse? Tom defies his parents over a motorbike. Fisher is horrified when a young man seeks out Marilyn. Gypsy keeps instigating “coincidental” meetings with Jesse.
Extended Summary
At the police station, Sergeant Carter explains to Justine that they will be taking an official statement on tape regarding the baby-shaking incident. Carter asks Justine to recount her version of the events. Carter suggests that it seems coincidental that Justine would call the doctor the same night that the child was taken into intensive care. Justine loses her temper, saying that she suspected that the Collinses were abusing the baby. At the end of the interview, Carter explains that the decision to charge Justine will be made by his superiors at some point in the future. At home, Joel explains that things don’t seem to be going well for Justine.
Gypsy keeps instigating ‘coincidental’ meetings with Jesse. He’s still reluctant to get into a relationship with her. Gypsy pressures him, saying that if he doesn’t like her, then she’ll leave him alone. Gypsy later invites herself over for dinner at Jesse’s place and they end the evening with a kiss.
Marilyn goes to her first counselling session and this takes an enormous burden off her shoulders. Afterwards, Marilyn tells Fisher about the session. Fisher says he felt ashamed for not being there for her – if he’d only supported her maybe she would have been all right. Fisher asks her what happened while she was away, but Marilyn will only say that she’s glad to be home. Later, Fisher answers a knock at the door from a 30-year-old handsome stranger called Guy. Guy explains that he became a friend with Marilyn during her time away from Fisher. He then says to Fisher, ‘You must be Marilyn’s father’. Fisher nearly chokes on the thought.
Tom sees a second-hand 250cc motorcycle for sale at a good price. When Tom asks Natalie if he could buy the bike, she refuses outright. After being cajoled by Tom, Natalie softens slightly, saying that he can ask his father. Jesse agrees to help Tom do some repairs on the bike. Tom finally asks about buying the bike. Joel refuses, pointing out that he’d like Tom to get more experience in a car before he contemplates a motorcycle. Plus, Joel tells him that motorbikes are dangerous and he has scraped motorcyclists off the road many times. Tom appears to accept Joel’s decision in a mature way. Tom then goes to put a down payment on the bike, regardless.
