At school John takes the class through an experiment on racism. Firstly he divides the class into blue and brown-eyed students. The brown eyed students receive privileges whilst the blue eyes which incorporate Peta, Sam and Hayley receive discrimination. The brown eyes enjoy the privileges whilst the blue eyes are angry at their treatment. Will at first as a brown eyes is enjoying the treatment but after talking to Justine at lunchtime at the Diner realises that this is a racist experiment. With the brown eyes being guilty of the racism against the blue eyes. When Will tries to speak out about the experiment he is put in a separate category. Finally John explains that this has been an experiment in racism and that the blue eyes have been treated as bigots have treated many tribes and religious groups all over the world.
James asks Chloe on her way to uni to drop into the solicitor’s office and collect some papers about adoption. Chloe says she has not got time and will go tomorrow. James believes Chloe is at uni when in fact she has gone to Irene’s with Olivia and is hiding there for the day. Irene tries to talk Chloe into accepting the fact that James would be a good father for Olivia and that she should let him adopt Olivia as Lachlan is unlikely to come back to Summer Bay. James comes round to see Irene and Chloe has to hide in Will’s bedroom with Olivia. James begs Irene to talk to Chloe as he can see that she is upset but will not talk to him about it. Chloe goes home later and tells James that she has been thinking about children and would like Olivia to have a brother or sister after all. James is delighted at the thought of being a father.
Justine goes to see baby Ruby Collins funeral and gets Tom to cover for while she skips school. She watches the funeral from a safe distance and is upset by the tiny coffin. Later she meets Tom and tells him that she is glad that he has been there for her.
