Peta almost gives away her secret to Will. Duncan admits the real reason for him joining the Christian youth group. Hayley tries to apologise to John for her discriminatory remarks, only to be rebuffed.
Extended Summary
Joel drops by John’s caravan to see if he requires towels or anything else. John notices Joel’s police uniform and does not seem pleased to see him. At school John is becoming popular with his students. Hayley realises she was wrong about John and goes to visit him at his caravan to apologise, however his response is that she is apologising to him so that she will feel better about herself. Hayley is offended by his response and complains to Will but he tells her that there may be other reasons for the response and that she should not jump to the wrong conclusion. The next day at the Beach Hayley meets John and explains that she was not apologising to make herself feel better and he says it is his turn to say sorry he was not in a good mood when she spoke to him. When Hayley is gone John sits on the beach watching a small child playing with its mother. This reminds John of the day he was playing with his mum on the beach when the police and social worker came and took him away from his mum.
Peta questions Will about whether he thinks Justine hurt Baby Ruby Collins. Will says he just knows that she did not. Peta then says that sometimes certain circumstances make people do things they would usually do. Does that make them bad? Will wonders if she is talking about Justine still and Peta explains she has wandered away from the original point of the conversation.
Duncan and Hope are working on his bible study homework and she says how pleased she is that she managed to get him to come to the Youth group. Alf and Ailsa are pleased with the transformation they see in Duncan and think that his friendship with Hope is doing wonders for him. Alf considers whether religion may be a good thing after all. Hope asks Duncan to a showing of The Cross and The Switchblade a Christian film, which is being shown at the school at lunchtime. Duncan says to Hope he is suggesting going to the Diner for lunch instead. Hope asks Duncan why he started going along to the Youth group in the first place, Duncan admits it was because of her. Hope is really disappointed and tells Duncan she thinks she is too young to go out with a boy. She says to Duncan that she hopes he will still come to the Youth group, as it is good for him.
