Tom dobs himself in to his parents over the motorbike. Peta tells Will the shocking truth about her gran. John leaves Summer Bay with plans to find his family. After reading Alan’s book, Marilyn worries that Fisher won’t be a good father to Byron.
Extended Summary
Rebecca is furious with Justine about the motorbike and takes Justine back to the house. She tells Justine she feels she can no longer trust her, this upsets Justine who tells her that she has never trusted her and thinks that Justine hurt Ruby Collins (the baby). Rebecca tells Tom he must tell Joel about the motorbike or she will. When Tom tells Joel about the motorbike and how he really hurt his arm. Joel is angry and says he cannot trust Tom. Tom explains to Joel later that he did not like lying to him about the motorbike but the motorbike was good for Justine. It was the only way she felt she could escape all that was going on with her life. He explains to Joel how much he loves Justine and he just wanted to help her.
Fisher is angry when he walks in John’s class and finds them there without him. When he meets John later he talks to him about personal responsibility. John explains how Joel had managed to find the policeman Les O’Connell who took him away from his mum as a small boy. John wanted to see O’Connell as it may help him track his mother. Fisher relents as he hears this. Later when Hayley and the others have John for an afternoon class he thanks them all for the “sorry book” and says that they don’t need to feel sorry just as long as they know about the stolen generation. John later goes to visit Joel and say goodbye.
Marilyn is reading Alan’s book, On the Crest of A Wave and is shocked at the portrayal of Fisher. When Vinnie tells her he thinks that everyone can have a dark side to their character Marilyn attempts to stick up for Fisher. However what Vinnie has said causes Marilyn to think about how Fisher will raise Byron – will he treat him the same way he did Alan? Marilyn later talks to Rebecca and asks her if Fisher was a good father to her. Rebecca says yes they had their troubles but they go on well.
Will tells Peta that he has realised that Peta’s gran would not think he was good enough for her. Peta later tells him that he is right and breaks off their relationship. Gypsy says to Peta that she is better without Will. This makes Peta angry and she says at least this will make Gypsy happy as she and Will can get back together. Later Gypsy goes to Irene’s to visit Will and persuade him to speak to Peta, as she believes Peta really cares about him. Peta goes home to a letter about Jury service for her gran to attend. Peta is panic-stricken and phones her brother David who is now in the city for help. She asks if he can come home to help her sort this out. David says he cannot leave because of his new job. As she puts the phone down Will arrives at the front door. Peta then tells Will about her Gran dying when she went to Poland and that they told nobody so they would not have to go into foster homes. They were able to collect their gran’s pension check as it was never stopped and they have managed to look after themselves. Will is bewildered by Peta’s story but tells her he will keep it a secret.
