Chloe tells James they really are finished. Tom is suffering from unrequited love for Justine. James learns that Lachlan has died.

Extended Summary

Irene tries to talk Chloe into making up with James. Chloe says that James is not willing to do so. Irene then at the surf club attempts to encourage James to win back Chloe, but he tells her to mind her own business with tears in his eyes. Everyone else in Summer Bay seems to also want to give Chloe advice about her marriage to James. Chloe later meets James at the house as he is washing his laundry. James refuses her offer of bringing the washing round to him at Jesse’s as he says he doesn’t need her help. Chloe is angry and says they have things they need to sort out such as dividing their possessions and paying the share of bills for the telephone and electricity. James tells her to stop being childish! While Chloe retaliates by saying James has made it very easy for her and that they are now finished! When James is back at Jesse’s his pager goes off it is Diana’s number. He rings it and Diana informs him that Lachie is dead. He goes straight round to Irene’s to tell Chloe. Chloe hugs James and is shocked at the news.

Justine and Tom are receiving lectures about the motorbike. Joel gives his opinion to Tom about Justine saying he should tell Justine about his feelings towards her. Joel later tells Justine to be careful with Tom and how much Tom would do for her. Justine promises Joel that she will not get Tom into more trouble. Later when Tom and Justine are cleaning the caravan park oven as part of their punishment Justine gives him a friendly kiss to thank him for being a friend.

Rebecca has invited Marilyn and Fisher over for Dinner. When Fisher discovers how Tom really hurt his arm he suggests a severe punishment to Joel in a light-hearted manner. Marilyn because of Alan’s book tells him that severe punishment is all that matters to him. Fisher does not understand what has happened to Marilyn. Marilyn later is worried about Byron’s first day at the day care centre and Fisher is not overly sympathetic and tells her that Byron will be alright. Marilyn is not happy at his apparent lack of concern. Fisher then approaches Ailsa asking if it is possible to have a relapse of post natal depression. Ailsa says no and he says he is worried that Marilyn is.

Later, Marilyn and Ailsa talk and Marilyn tells how she has read Alan’s book and the worry it has caused. Ailsa tells her she is being silly and Marilyn makes a list of all the good things that Fisher for Byron. She then realises that Fisher is a good father and that Alan was wrong. Fisher comes into the Diner with Byron having brought him back early from the day care centre.

Later, Marilyn sits in the diner, telling Ailsa of the fears the book has instilled in her. But after Ailsa suggests that she is being ridiculous, Marilyn makes a list of all the wonderful things Fisher does for Byron and she convinces herself that Alan must have been wrong – Fisher is a great father. Fisher takes Byron out of day-care slightly early; concerned that he was being too harsh. Marilyn tells a dumbfounded Fisher that he is being silly.
