WHARF AREA
As Alf and Kane unload a small boat, Rhys and Beth walk nearby, discussing Jade’s recent frame of mind. They know that Jade has a lot to take in, especially in regards to Kirsty and the baby. Beth assures Rhys that he is doing a good job – at least he succeeded in getting Jade to open up to him! He just isn’t doing it alone! As they embrace, Alf passing breaks the moment, commenting that it’s a public place. Kane walks past without a word, and Rhys lingers behind, stony faced, as Alf and Beth have a light hearted chat about Scott following in his fathers footsteps – escaping when there’s work to be done. Beth purposely brings Kane into the conversation, joking that Jack’s is not an example Kane should follow with Kirsty and the baby, and Kane responds there’s no chance – Kirsty’s not gonna let him! Kirsty has been fine with pregnancy so far, and Beth concedes that they must come around sometime… although Kane isn’t quite so certain it’ll happen. As Beth joins Rhys to continue their walk, Kane agrees with Alf that Beth is indeed a “top sheila”.
SCHOOL
In Hyde’s office, Hyde has been quick to jump to the conclusion that Robbie was behind the mess, or that he knows who was, and is trying to get him to confess. Robbie, however, protests his innocence – he doesn’t know what happened and he’s right handed… he explains to Hyde that the “throw patterns” of files around the office were those of a left handed person, chucking another file to demonstrate his point. Backup arrives in time to stop Hyde calling his parents – and the police – as Irene intervenes to inform Hyde that Robbie was in his office only seconds – she was sat outside – and there was no way he had time to made all that mess. Robbie concludes that he’d have to be both left handed AND super-fast if he were the culprit. Hyde dismisses Robbie, before going for a word with Irene. It seems that he is satisfied Robbie isn’t responsible – but even so, he could know who is. Hyde wants to do things his own way (ie. throwing his weight around) but Irene tries to persuade him that giving the kids respect is the way to go – not setting the police onto them.
FLYNN’S PLACE
As Sally gets ready to go into work, she voices concerns to Flynn about the reason for Leah’s arranged dinner that night, and the possibility of something being wrong with the baby. Ever the optimist, Flynn reckons it could simply be Leah wanting dinner with her friends. Colleen arrives with a subdued “yoo hoo”, explaining that she’s early because she’s trying to move on – Norman has turned out to be “a leopard in sheeps clothing” – she tells them that there is a Mrs Shadbolt that Norman neglected to tell her about. She sits down in tears as Sally consoles her – Norman is the one with the problem. The phone rings, and Sally is called into school, leaving Flynn to comfort Colleen.
SCHOOL
Irene scrabbles about on the floor – apparently it is now the secretary’s job to tidy up trashed offices. Sally arrives to give her a hand, and they come to the conclusion that someone ‘aint too keen on Mr Hyde… The man himself arrives just in time to hear Irene mutter “mind you, the way he carries on sometimes I can certainly…”. Hyde has decided to call an assembly to get to the bottom of the mystery – he’s convinced it was a pupil, and at the very least someone must know something – he won’t stop until he gets the truth, and he has all day… AND all night…
Hyde marches up and down the rows of standing pupils, who seem to have been there for a while and are suffering from boredom… many waft their faces to let us know that the hall is stuffy, and the teachers also seem to be under suspicion, sitting silently in a row of chairs on the stage. Jade is fed up, and Seb reckons Hyde has gone insane. Predictably, Tasha is getting irritated at being bosses around by Hyde once more, and wants to go, and once more Robbie must try and find a reason for her to stay – they could use the time to tell one another stories. Hyde catches them talking, and addresses the school – he knows how touch they are finding it, but all that has to happen is for someone to admit to the carnage. As a girl faints (or at least crumples to the floor weakly), Sally rushes to asist and Hyde turns it to his advantage – the culprit obviously doesn’t care about his or her fellow students. It doesn’t work, and Hyde finally concludes the assembly… but it’s not over. When he gets to the bottom of it, the cuplrit will pay – he’ll make sure of it.
As they walk to classes, Robbie and Tasha were both thinking that the other did it… and thus realise that it was neither of them. They obviously have a “great opinion of each other”. Jade and Seb spark anoither Hyde-whinge, and Jade reckons they shouldn;t leave it to their parents, as Robbie brightly suggests, but should take action themselves. She and Seb may only have a year to put up with him, but the other kids could have years of hell left. Robbie mentions that he has ‘a plan’. As Noah walks past, he tells them that he has some stuff to say to Hyde himself, and as he leaves Robbie rckons that their lives are ruined.
Noah gives his opinion to Hyde – it’s important to listen to what kids say. Hyde twists this, and asks for assistance – he wants Noah to formally interview every child and get to the bottom of the vandalism of his office. Noah can’t comprehend what Hyde is saying – he’ll lose the kids trust, but Hyde insists that respect is the important thing – that way he’ll get trust. Hyde is a strong believer in self-discipline – and instilling it into children is his job. he has done it in tougher schools than Summer Bay High. He brushes off Noah’s comments about Summer Bay being different to ‘those schools’, instead sending him to Irene, who is to write him a roster (SP?) for the interviews. Irene is still reeling about losing her job, and Hyde reminds her that she is free to reapply, but there is no way she is going to go back begging for her own job.
BREAK
CARAVAN PARK
Rhys has been working his guts out doing repair jobs on the caravan park, but it all seems worth it as it’s THEIR caravan park. Beth suggests it’ll be even better once they put in a swimming pool! Rhys doesn’t recall that plan popping up – he remembers landscaping and painting, but nothing about a swimming pool! Beth reminds him that Colleen wants a bird bath, and Rhys reckons she won’t have much time for watching birds – he saw Norman making a quick getaway from her place in the early hours of the morning! Beth manages to turn Rhys good mood into a large frown as she suggests they have Kirsty and kane over for dinner – it has to happen sometime, and Dani’s would be ok with it. Rhys put his foot down – no way does he want to ‘lose it’ in front of his famly again – but after receiving ‘the look’ from Beth he concedes that he’ll think about it.
SURGERY
Flynn presents Colleen with a bunch of roses, and she is delighted… until she realises they’re from Norman. The flowers swiftly find their weay into the bin, to the utmost shock of the single patient sat in her weaiting room, who keeps her hand over her mouth in disbelief for the rest of the scene. Flynn suggests that Colleen take some time off. When she refuses, on the grounds of being ‘professional’, he makes it an order, taking her job… the first call he answers is Norman, which sends Colleen running out of the door.
CARAVAN PARK
Colleen is hovering around Rhys, wondering when a hinge in her caravan will get fixed, and whinging about ‘the old days’ when everything got done straight away, unlike now. She comments that someone always has time to collect the site fees, and Beth intervenes, sensing that something is up – Colleen collapses into tears about Norman, and how she’s been a silly old fool to trust him. She rushes off, and Beth and Rhys are surprised that Norman was ‘that type’, with Beth stating that sometimes you don’t know who you’re with until you’re in too deep.
OUTSIDE SURF CLUB
Seb knows that something is going on between Jade and Kirsty, but Jade can’t tell him what it is. Robbie arrives, complete with a master plan that sounds *so* mature… they’re going to put a “little surprise” in Hyde’s desk. He needs Jade’s mobile number, but she is suss, and reckons that they should try something that makes Hyde pay attention to them (as in not a stupid prank?) – like a strike… or a ‘go slow’ – they follow all the rules, but just slowly. Seb reckons it’s a great idea, and Robbie enthuses that Seb’s going to win the election, which puts a brand new frown on Jade’s face.
SCHOOL
Seb stands giving a speech to pupils about standing up to Hyde – they all have choices, and they should use them. He reckons they should organise sit-ins, start petitions and upon seeing Sally walking up to them, declares that they should treat her as the principal. A look of amusement briefly passes over Sally’s face as she praises the assembly before sending them to class. They refuse, on the grounds that their meeting is more important, and Sally repeats her order, leading Jade to question whether she is on Hyde’s ‘side’. She avoids the question, making out that there are no sides in the matter and this time some pupils move when instructed to get to class. Jade is determined to get an answer though, and Sally is equally determined not to give her one, instead demanding that they get to their classes. Jade goes into a sulk about Sally being “as bad as the rest of them”… not seeming to *get* that it would be stupid and unprofessional if Sally were to start slagging off one of her colleagues in front of a gathering of students.
SURGERY
Noah talks to Flynn about everyones favourite topic of conversation just now – Hyde. As they saunter through into the house, Noah tells Flynn that he reckons Hyde has the kids interests at heart – in a camp commandant sort of way. He also voices concerns about Hayley, and Flynn is confident that Hayley will be going into the operation in a good state… the main concern is whether or not there will be scarring, and how long the damage will take to heal. Noah is adamant that scarring won’t change the way he feels about Hayley – he loves her – and he’s going to be there for her to the point that she gets fed up of seeing him. Flynn is worried about the stress Hayley’s condition is putting on Irene, wanting Noah to have a word with her to try and persuade her to take it easy.
SCHOOL
Robbie is caught by Irene as he makes a getaway from Hyde’s office, and claims that he was only trying to find Hyde to try and get his phone back. Irene isn’t convinced. She tells Robbie that she knows he didn’t trash the office but if he was defending who did… Robbie lets her know that it WASN’T Tasha – because she thought it was him, and thus it can’t have been her! Irene pleads with him to have a word in her ear if he finds out anything, as she is keen to get the matter cleared up, but he swears he knows nothing… he does, however, have a plan for Jekyll. He tells Irene he won’t be getting into trouble, because Hyde won’t have a clue what’s going on!
SCHOOL
Sally catches up with Jade, who delivers a feeble apology for her earlier behaviour. Sally has noticed that something deeper is up with her, wondering whether it is the stress at home – Kirsty having a baby will be BIG for the whole family. Jade muses “yeah, it’s going to bring everyone together, it’s going to make Dad like Kane, and Dani’s going to be really happy now, and everyone in the hosue is just gonna get on”. Sally wants Jade to talk to someone, but Jade refuses and makes to go to class – she doesn’t want Jekyll to have a go at her for being late.
Irene hands Hyde some applications for her job, and he helpfully tells her that it’s difficult to get people with the right skills AND the right attitude, before having the cheek to ask her whether she has done the rosters for Noah’s interviews yet. She tells him that he’s turning the school into a police state, and when he snidely comments that *that* was what he meant about attitude, she is furious. They are interrupted as a phone starts ringing… followed by several others. It’s the confiscated phone box going mad, and Hyde scrambles to switch them all off, sure that he did so earlier. Irene is obviously amused and leaves him to contend with the phones as she goes to do Noah’s roster.
SURF CLUB
Jade doesn’t get time to tell her Dad about the prank played on Hyde as he hands over the apron and rushes off to complete more jobs around the caravan park. He asks Jade to get home as soon as possible once she has finished up at the kiosk as Beth could do with a hand… they’re having Kirsty and Kane over for dinner. Jade’s reaction isn’t one of joy and excitement, but Rhys asks her to make an effort – for Kirsty’s sake. As he leaves, Jade tells Seb that Kirsty couldn’t care less… and she’ll have to spend dinner pretending that she’s really happy. Seb’s confused – this kid will be her niece or nephew… Jade breaks it to him that the baby is all a lie – she has been covering for Kirsty. Jade makes him promise not to say anything to anyone.
SCHOOL
Robbie is Mr Popular after the phone prank, and Tasha doesn’t understand it – he did something bad and is being praised. She suggests they tie Hyde up and dump him in the middle of the bush – would that ‘send the message’ to hyde too?! Robbie explains that it doesn’t exactly work that way.
Sally tells Hyde that some of his methods are provocative to the kids, and it’s the sort of discipline that they’re used to. hyde doesn’t care about the past, and what the pupils expect, despite Sally pointing out that the school has a good record. He dishes out some career advice – she shouldn’t try and undermine him with the department, as they are interested in people doing their jobs – and hers is to support the principal. She is cut off as she tries to suggest how he could get better results as they round the corner and come into sight of Hyde’s car… someone has made a bit of a mess with lii roll and white stuff… inside the car awaits a message – “You’ll totally get what you deserve Jekell”. Scary.
