***
NEAR SURF CLUB
Kirsty walking along is accompanied by ‘Love me’ with “Beautiful Lie” (a piece KK fans will no doubt remember as being one of *their* pieces in 2002 – UK2003). Not surprisingly she’s still looking pretty down
GYM
Leah arrives to see Jesse, who is still wound uo at her – Sally and Flynn are her best friends and she has let them believe that they are to become parents – they’ll be crushed. Leah is still shaky about what to do – maybe if she sees them she’ll feel better about things. Jesse informs her that it isn’t that simple – she can’t just expect a ‘sign’ telling her it’s ok to keep the baby. Leah is angry that he doesn’t understand her.
FLYNN’S PLACE
Flynn and Sally are feeling sorry for Colleen with her broken heart, and they hope the night with Leah and Jesse will be a success. They declare the house a stress-free zone for the evening, and Sally goes on to criticise Flynn’s choice of ‘comfortable’ clothing- “lets just hope the fashion police aren’t making house calls tonight!”. He goes to change.
BEACH HOUSE
In KK’s room, Kane writes a card for some flowers as Kirsty arrives back from her walk. He is getting stressed – they’re meant to be there in ten minutes and she’s not even dressed. She points out to him that she IS dressed, and rejects the idea of wearing her new top, angrily telling him that it’s no big deal. He sits down beside her, asking her not to worry about dinner – he’s gonna behave! he wants their kid to know its relatives, and he also wants her family to know that they’re ‘doing ok’. Irene enters to offer them a lift to dinner, as she is on her way to the hospital, but Kirsty turns it down. Irene then mentions the big night they have ahead of them – a family dinner, and a chance for the family to talk about the baby – cue an automatic look of guilt and frustration from Kirsty. Kane knows how important the night is – he and Rhys just have to remember not to rip one anothers heads off. He reckons they’re going to have a great time… and predictably Kirsty doesn’t look so convinced.
CARAVAN PARK
Henry and Matilda are squabbling, with Matilda wound up about not being allowed to go out due to the family dinner. Beth tries to calm everything down, but even Rhys isn’t looking forward to it. When it is realised tthat Robbie is ‘out with Tasha’ (aka not in the episode), Henry and Matilda are furious – how come he gets out of it? Kane and Kirsty arrive through the back door just as Beth lets rip at the twins, telling them that it is a family dinner and they WILL be there whether they like it or not. Beth reverts to fairy godmother mode as she passes the arguement off as a ‘family discussion’ and thanks Kane for the flowers. Rhys reluctantly shakes Kane’s hand, avoiding looking his nemesis in the eys, before sauntering to the other side of the room. Dani and Scott arrive to make the Brady Bunch complete, with less-than-enthusiastic greetings passing through the room. Dani recieves an awkward smile complete with raised-in-stunned-fashion eyebrow from Kane, and she is unable to force a smile back. Beth goes to get the dinner, assuring Kirsty that fish isn’t anywhere on the menu – Beth hated the smell of fish when she was pregnant. The look passed between Jade and Kirsty goes a long way in explaining how the evening is going to go…
FLYNN’S PLACE
Jesse and Leah have arrives, and Flynn talks work… or more accurately his inability to work out Colleen’s filing system. They are still shocked that Norman ‘pulled a fast one’ on Colleen – she trusted him and he blew the whole thing. It looks like their evening is off to a smashing start too as a long silence follows. Flynn and Sally excuse themselves to get some drinks, and once out of earshot they speculate as to why Jesse and Leah are on edege. Flynn, the optimist once more, reckons they’ve just had a tough day. Outside in the lounge, Jesse is trying to push Leah into making a decision – he doesn’t want to sit all evening waiting for her to make a decision. She politely asks him to stop sticking his nose in.
CARAVAN PARK
There is total silence for the first time at a family dinner, and the tension could be cut with a knife. Beth tries to break the atmosphere by asking after how the ‘boys’ are going on the boat. Scott mentions that Kane picked up a pretty good booking that day, and Kane comments that he wishes he was working on commission. Matilda decides to cut in with a sarcastic “Oh, ha ha” and succeeds in creating another awkward silence . Scott lightens the mood a little by asking on how the baby shopping’s going, and Kane announces that they’ve only looked – but they’ve picked out a football – you can never start too early. As Kirsty and Rhys both sit awkwardly, saying nothing, Dani makes an effort at conversation, suggesting that Rhys can teach them how to play footy if it’s a boy… before Kane points out the sexist nature of the comment – “girls kick footies too”. The conversation is getting too much for Kirsty and she messily gathers up some dishes to take them to the kitchen, insisting on doing it herself. Jade joins her, wanting Kirsty to tell them – she will have to sooner or later. Kirsty, wise as ever, is adamant that she’ll be pregnant soon anyway – no one will need to know. She doesn’t have a choice, and although she’s sorry for making Jade lie for her, she is still pleading with Jade not to tell anyone. Jade neglects to mention that Seb knows the whole truth, and is upset to think that Kirsty xcares more about how Kane will feel than about Dani and Rhys’ reactions.
FLYNN’S PLACE
Jesse, Sally, Flynn and Leah are playing a game which involves drawing horses, with Leah sat in a mood, not joining in the laughter or the criticism of Jesse’s drawing. Leah chooses that moment to tell the gathering that she needs to talk to them about something, but Jesse asks her not to do it, before leaving. Leah rushes out after him, leaving Sally and Flynn confused and upset, wondering what has happened.
BEACH
Leah catches up with Jesse to inform them that she couldn’t tell them, and that she can’t keep the baby without his support – support which he refuses to give her. She decides to give them the baby because of him, and needless to say Jesse is less than impressed with her decision – he doesn’t want it to be made about him. It’s her decision, and it WOULD be the wrong choice if she were to give up the child because of him
FLYNN’S PLACE
Sally wonders where they would stand if Leah decided to keep the baby, and although Flynn recognises that the law would probably be on Leah’s side, he is adamant that it won’t happen – Leah’s their friend. She feels stupid and scared, and is desperate not to lose their baby.
CARAVAN PARK
The family slowly make their way through dessert, Max noting that Kirsty has hardly eaten anything, and given the way Kane is staring across the table at the long-faced Kirsty, it seems he has finally sussed that something is up. Henry and Matilda stun Beth when they decide they’re really tired and want an early night, and as they leave Beth remarks that Kane and Kirsty have ‘all this’ to look forward to. Kane is enthusiastic about everything – he and Kirsty want a big family, but the girl in question doesn’t appear to be paying attention to the conversation. She claims that she is fine, but by now it seems everyone has realised that something isn’t right. Rhys finally joins in with the conversation – at least they’re off to a good start for having a big family, but Kane askinbg Dani whether she wants a big family goes down like a lead balloon. He reckons it’d be great for their kid to have a cousin, but Scott and Dani haven’t really thought about it. Dani pretty swiftly decides she wants to leave, and Scott concurs. Within seconds, the pair of them are gone.
BREAK
BEACH
Scott and Dani take a stroll, with him concerned about the way she suddenly wanted to leave. But she’s fine, and agrees that she did really well that evening. She’d never have thought six months ago that they’d be sitting having a family dinner together, but they managed to get through it.
CARAVAN PARK
Beth speculates that the twins will be ashamed of their behaviour in the morning, but Rhys isn’t too sure. The Hunter’s didn’t participate much in the evening but then, Rhys points out, neither did he. It was a tough night on all of them, and with Dani there he couldn’t just “chat to the bloke”. They both noticed that Kirsty looked unhappy, and they wonder if there’s still trouble between she and Jade. Rhys is puzzled – Kirsty is just married and has a kid on the way and yet she still isn’t happy, and Beth speculates on the possibilities – she could be concerned about how Kane will handle fatherhood, but is adamant that he wouldn’t up and leave. Beth decides that she will have a girl-to-girl chat with Jade.
BEACH HOUSE
Kane and kirsty are back home and the tension seems to have come with them. He isn’t happy that she didn’t give him a hand back at dinner and she just wants to sleep. He doesn’t get that she’s still unhappy, even though they have everything they want – her family was letting him in and she didn’t even want to be there. She is quick to deny that she is ashamed of him – he’s the only good thing in her life at the minute, but he makes another mistake when he suggests the baby is another good thing… Kirsty hesitates before avoiding the question and refusing to tell him what is wrong – she doesn’t want to talk about it.
FLYNN’S PLACE
Sally is sat up worrying – when Pippa took her in she had a great life, but she still misses her parents – what if that’s the way their kid feels
about Leah? She doesn’t want the child to look to Leah as ‘Mum’, and Flynn knows how stressful it is – on both of them. He suggests they go and see a counsellor, but she reckons she’ll be ok so long as he is. The doc gives her some advice – right now, she needs to go to bed with her loving husband.
BEACH HOUSE
Kane prepares for a night on the sofa, and Irene demands to know what they’ve been fighting about… Kane tells her all that he knows – something is up with Kirsty and she won’t tell him what it is, so he’s just giving her some space. The dinner wasn’t easy on either of them, but he’s positive that she didn;t want to be there at all – least of all with him. he mulls over posible reasons for her odd behaviour – maybe it’s the marriage that has sunk in, but she doesn’t seem at all happy about the baby either. Irene gives him a womans perspective – the men get it easy when it comes to kids, and she knows she was petrified when she first became pregnant. She gives him some advice – he needs to talk to her and listen to what she is trying to tell him. He doesn’t exactly have any other choice but to give it another go.
Kane joins Kirsty on the bed, wanting to apologise for taking his stress out on her earlier – he just wants to help. She rolls over to face him, telling him that apologies aren’t necessary, but he continues the sweet-talk – she’s everything he has always wanted, he wants to be with her, and she’s having his baby. All the tension is forgotten as little baby signs flash before Kirsty’s eyes and the pair fall into a passionate clinch…
BEACH
Jesse and Flynn go for their early morning jog, with Flynn wanting to ‘cut it short’ – he wants to see Hayley before she goes into surgery. He approaches the subject of the previous night – it was obvious that everything wasn’t ‘cool’, and although Jesse blames it on problems between he and Leah, he is unable to keep up the pretence when Flynn mentions Sally’s fears. Flynn is angry and upset when he realises that Sally was right – Leah doesn’t want to give up the baby.
CARAVAN PARK
Max is busy pestering Henry about where he was going, fully dressed, the previous night, and Matilda vehemently backs her brother up when he insists that he didn’t go anywhere – “If he sdaid he didn’t go anywhere then he didn’t… what are you like stupid or something?”.
Beth probes Jade for information about Kirsty, but Jade can;t say anything. She blames the mood the previous night on both she and Kirsty being tired, and Beth just wants to know if there’s anything she can do. Jade walks out.
SCHOOL
Jade catches up with Kirsty, telling her about Beth’s early questioning, and wanting Beth to know – at least Beth would be able to explain it to the family. Jade accuses Kirsty of only caring how Kane is going to feel when the truth eventually comes out, but Kirsty maintains that everything will be fine once she becomes pregnant. Jade decides she just can’t ‘do it’ anymore, and walks off. Sally is the next to catch up with Kirsty and ask whether she is alright – offering her ear if Kirsty wants anyone to talk to. As they round the corner they come across a crowd of kids laughing hysterically at some graffitti – some smart child has graffittied “Jekell sux”, along with some little stick men pictures. Sally is suitably shocked. Honestly, a school and they can’t even get the spelling right…
