Extended Summary
Scott and Dani (who is wearing a bandanna that the juries out on, but nice ivory carved earrings) are strolling along as she talks about what a weight has been lifted off her shoulders, in Rhys and her deciding to put their hate for Kane in the past. Scott is proud of her. They speculate on whether Kirsty would take Kane back, and Dani comments nothing would surpise her, and admits that despite everything, she does see that Kane really loves Kirsty. Not that it excuses what he did. Now just what is it they think he did? They seem to have accepted the fact he didn’t hit her, so what is the ‘what he did’ they keep referring to, in this scene, and past episodes this week? They then talk about this could be a fresh start for everyone. Dani receives a call on her mobile from Leah, and from her reaction it’s not to tell her she’s won the lotto.
Cut to the Diner, where Dani, Scott, Leah, and Alf are concerned about Hayley running off. Leah says that Hayley got it wrong as the customer had meant she was looking fine, and Dani agrees that Hayley is paranoid about any remarks about her face.
Irene and Sally at her Sal’s also discussing Hayley. Which seems to be the theme of the ep, as nearly every damn scene includes the obligatory Concern For Hayley related exchange the short-hand version of which is ‘So they haven’t found her yet?’ ‘No’. ‘Tsk. The poor girl blah blah’. They move into the surgery, and Irene comments on the mess, which apparently is Colleen’s idea of filing. Sally admits that Colleen just isn’t working out in the job, but they don’t have the heart to tell her. Colleen walks into the house calling out “y (sigh. You know what she calls out when she walks into a house. Yes. That.), and carrying a huge stuffed tiger, which she is bringing into work why? She decides (aloud) that Doctor must have started work early, and goes towards the surgery where she overhears Irene and Sal talking. Sal has offered Irene the job, and although Irene is tempted as she could use the cash, she doesn’t want to be the one to put Colleen out of a job. Sal insists she won’t be as Flynn and her have already decided that Colleen has got to go. Colleen angrily bursts in and confronts them.
Irene and Sal try to pacify Colleen who moans about being on the ‘scrapheap of life’. Irene offers to give her some computer tips, and Sally has to go and open up for a P & C meeting, but insists to Colleen that they will talk about this more later.
Floss and Leah are in the diner carrying out the Concern For Hayley exchange.
Alf and Beth talk about the upcoming P & C meeting, and refer to the current president. They’re not fans and can’t understand how he keeps getting re-elected.
Sally unlocks a classroom for the waiting parents, and she and Beth carry out the Concern For Hayley exchange.
The current president, who is obviously just there to be the token rude, strict dinosaur and foil to Beth’s earth mother approach, makes a couple of snide remarks to Beth about her problem children, and goes on to voice his approval of Mr Hyde’s disciplinarian methods.
Kim is at the Sutherland’s and has accessed his father’s account online. He snarks ‘boring’ and ‘predictable’ as he browses the entries. Yes Kim, how remiss of Hyde not to have used his credit card to pay for his lover’s transgender operation and cocaine supply, so as to give you a jollier time online when you hack into his confidential bank details. A couple of entries catch his eye though, and he highlights them for the viewer’s benefit. Considerate of you Kim, but no need. We’re really not interested in the minute details of your scenes. Or for that matter, your scenes. Scott enters looking for Dani. They have the Concern For Hayley exchange, and Scott registers what’s on the computer screen.
Darth Roger, the current president is talking about their need, as working parents, to know the school will parent by proxy. Beth disagrees, and argues that he makes out that raising children is a chore, and instilling morals is the parents responsibility. While I like Beth, it really seemed that she was spouting a lot of politically correct stuff that sounded good, without actually having much of a point. Fine, she doesn’t work but other less lazy Non-Ladies-What-Lunch do. And even if they are full-time mothers, is she saying that the school shouldn’t also be instilling morals? She gets on a roll, and likens Darth Roger’s latest point to ‘manure’, before sheepishly apologising, but gets a round of applause.
Colleen, Floss, and Leah are at the Diner having the CFH exchange. Floss and Colleen fondly remember the days of yore, when computers were but a twinkle in Albert Einstein’s eye, and Colleen wasn’t “redundable”. Floss gives her a pep-talk and encourages her to learn about computers.
Beth is speechifying some more to the P & C committee in broad idealogical terms. Yes Beth. Because I’m sure so many of your audience wanted an UN-representative section of the school parents on the committee who were UNsupportive of eachother. Still they seem interested in hearing more from her. Darth Roger takes a cheap shot at Kit’s alchoholism, and Beth bristles saying how proud she is of her daughter, and praising Mr Burnett for encouraging Kim to be open about her problem with the rest of the students in a class discussion. At least that point finally contains some specifics, so Go Beth! Beth is now on a roll and launches into yet another point.
Sally and Leah have the CFH exchange. Scott confides in Sally that he earlier saw that Kim had accessed Hyde’s bank account online, and wouldn’t have said anything but he thought it could be relevant given the school’s recent computer problems. Sally thanks him for letting her know.
Colleen and a random patient chat, but when he mentions paying his bill she fumbles for an excuse, eventually saying she’ll put it in the mail, trying to cover for the fact that she doesn’t know how to access it. From his reaction though, she’s either spoken in code that he’s interpreted that she’ll be his sex slave for the night, or he’s just a reeeaallly bad actor, because he excitedly exclaims “LUVly! CheeRIO!”.
Irene runs a virus-scheck for Sally at the school, and says Kim doesn’t appear to have uploaded anything dodgy. As she goes to shut off though, she misclicks, and finds a picture of a woman holding a baby. She coos over how cute Kim was as a baby, but then twigs that it couldn’t be Kim given the recent date. Sally shrugs that it may be a niece or nephew, but Irene says Hyde hasn’t got any. I wouldn’t have thought she and Hyde had made it to the stage where they exchange family information just yet, since their exchanges have so far comprised of ‘you hard-line tyrant’ on her side and ‘you’re fired’ on his. Her jaw drops as she then reads a comment from the sender that the baby looks more like him each day.
Sally comes in towards the end of the P & C meeting and Beth tells her that she is the new president. Darth Roger is grumbling about the hours of unpaid work only to be passed over. Beth feels guilty and is about to suggest something, but Sally cuts her short and is firm that she was elected democratically. They go to the Diner where Floss arranges with Sally that she’ll come by later, and tell Alf and Leah about the news. While Alf gives Beth some tips, Leah discreetly approaches Sal about where she stands regarding the gym, since Kane is back and the bail money is safe. Sally confirms she stills wants to buy and she and Leah happily hug. Alf then gets a phone-call, and from his reaction it seems Dani isn’t the only one who hasn’t won the lotto.
Scott and Alf are at the Palace, and are upset to learn that the authorities aren’t letting the Campbell matter drop even now they know the husband orchestrated the disappearance. Scott could have his licence revoked for a year. Scott beats himself up for letting the Campbells talk him into diving outside the designated area, and Alf worries that the police will find out the Blaxland wasn’t seaworthy. Moral of the story you two? When Kane talks: Listen.
Sally approaches Kim to talk, but he tells her it’s Sunday and school’s out. Rude. He is indignant that Scott told her that he was checking out his dad’s account online, and she cautions him that if she finds out about any money going missing she’ll have to say what she knows. She then tries to offer Kim some relationship advice, but Kim doesn’t want to hear it saying it’s his business.
Scott is upset about the Blaxland. Dani tries to comfort him by saying it would only be for a year and he could do something else in the interim, but Scott says it’s the end of his dream.
Floss arrives at Sally’s and they chat about how she might be staying on for a while. Sal offers to put her up, but Floss says she wouldn’t want to outstay her welcome. She then sits Sally down, and tells her straight she’s crook and it’s cancer. Sally’s face crumples slightly and she says ‘Floss’. Kate Ritchie does tearful voice well. Floss is brisk and cheerful, but tells Sally how she’s seen some mates sucumb to cancer, and how much pain they were in. She wants to decide when she’ll go and how, and she wants Sally’s help.
