Extended Summary
Matilda is still angry at her perceived betrayal over Kim. She thinks her family was laughing at her behind her back. Beth says the family has gone to great efforts to mend fences, now it’s time for her give up the drama pills. But Matilda isn’t about to grow up just yet.
At school there’s real drama when Dalby returns. Everyone thinks he’s going to beat up Robbie after his devious set-up. But it’s a huge anti-climax. He appears to be a changed man. He ignores Robbie and his apology; he won’t talk to Wazza, and though Dan finds some chinks, it seems impossible to penetrate the Perspex emotional shield. Behind the tough exterior is a damaged kid.
Meanwhile at the Diner, Alf has asked Morag to help speed up Viv’s parole. Morag asks if he’s sure he wants her well being totally in his hands? He tells her to just do it. Josie arrives and Morag is immediately sidetracked. Josie is worried by the silence emanating from Osborne and Stafford McRae. Are they being frozen out? Morag is made of tougher stuff. They’re being tested, that’s all. Be strong, do nothing, she warns Josie, “The last thing we need is a wildcard”.
Speaking of wildcards, Sally is piecing together the parts of the puzzle surrounding Josie, her benefactor, the mysterious master oncologist, and the flowers that came to Kirsty from someone other than Kane. She can’t find the link, until a chance glimpse of Morag and Josie together gives her the answer: Morag.
Back in the classroom, Dalby continues his strange behaviour by fainting. He wakes up in Flynn’s surgery. Flynn interrogates Dalby as to why he went back to school so quickly after being bashed. When he can’t get satisfactory answers he remarks that he’ll have to call Dalby’s dad to come pick him up. Dalby reacts so alarmingly that Flynn suspects Dalby’s dad is the one who bashed him up.
Dalby goes back to school to rest in the infirmary while Flynn’s investigations confirm his suspicions. Dan says he wants to break through with Dalby but there’s a barrier between them. He asks Flynn to try. Unfortunately Flynn can’t find Dalby at school. He’s fled. He finds Dalby on the beach and says that he can talk to either he or Dan at any time. But he hopes he trusts Dan enough to go to him.
Morag has just finished telling Alf that she’s worked on getting Viv out early, but he shouldn’t expect too much, when Sally confronts her with her suspicions. She threatens Morag that if she doesn’t come clean she’ll start asking awkward questions of other people. Morag mulls over that and then tells her firmly that she will get back to her. Sally’s fears have been realised. Later on that day, Morag calls an extraordinary meeting of Sally, Flynn, Josie, Irene and herself for 7:30 that night. Much to Irene’s annoyance, Morag is adamant it has to be at the beach house. It’s finally time for the truth to come out.
