Extended Summary
Sally, Flynn and Pippa have finally swapped houses with the Hunters. The move is especially sweet for Sally. She has finally returned to Tom and Pippa’s house – a place full of nostalgia for her. While she puts some of the final touches on the house, Flynn is busy counselling Jesse.
Jesse is still extremely frustrated over his break-up with Josie. He has incredibly strong feelings for her but she seems determined to shut him out. Flynn tries to make him understand it’s not surprising she’s scared of true intimacy given her ‘profession’. It must be incredibly hard for her to trust men. Jesse is adamant that he can’t just be friends with her. If she won’t love him, then it’s going to be purely business between them from now on!
Alf is desperate to track down the Marion family who adopted his son. His grief over Viv’s death and the anxiety over his son is tearing him apart. Morag is supportive, but she thinks given the track record with the Stewart children, maybe he’s better off not finding his son. His hopes are further dashed when Colleen tells him she’s sure there are no Marion families in the area.
Tasha has dropped by to see how the Hunters are settling in after the move. Matilda tries to stir up trouble by telling Tasha about the girlie poster on the back of Robbie and Kim’s bedroom door. But Tasha isn’t fazed – she just thinks it’s beautiful. There’s a knock at the door and Beth discovers a very distraught Dalby – beaten and covered in blood. He collapses onto the floor.
Flynn rushes over to treat the boy – he suspects he’s been beaten by his father. When alone with Flynn, Dalby starts to open up. He says he thinks he’s killed his father. Dalby’s father has been beating him for some time. This morning his father totally lost his temper and viciously attacked Dalby. The boy feared for his life. In self defence he pushed his father off him and he fell hard. He’s dead! Suddenly Dalby begins to fit uncontrollably and Flynn realises they must get him to the hospital immediately. Outside Hyde and the police have arrived – Dalby is wanted for questioning in relation to the death of his father.
It doesn’t take long for gossip about Dalby to reach the school. Word is that Dalby murdered his father and the police are after him. Matilda thinks that’ll be the end of Eric Dalby – and it’s good riddens to bad rubbish!
Colleen has a sudden realisation – of course she knows the Marions! She rushes to tell Alf the news. It’s old Mr and Mrs Dalby. Everyone used to call them the “Marions” because their first names were both Marion. She thinks it funny that Alf should ask about them today – the very day that their awful son was killed by their grandson. And the penny finally drops for Alf – the son he has been searching for is now dead, killed by Alf’s grandson – Eric Dalby.
