Extended Summary
Today’s the Miss Groper Pageant and Tasha has heaps to do. Not only is she competing, she’s also leaving the Bay! Irene tries to talk her round again, but Tasha’s mind is made up. She tells a stunned Sally and Flynn that she has to sell the caravan park and they can have first offer. They don’t have the money. Sally goes to Irene to see how she’s holding up. Irene says she’s thinking of asking Morag to intervene – it worked last time. But Sally thinks it will cause friction. Irene finally accepts that Tasha is leaving, and the two of them share an emotional farewell.
In reaction to the threatening email about the Miss Groper Pageant, Peter demands they call it off. Senior Detective Clare Brody refuses – it will only create panic in the community. Meanwhile Peter’s still having dreams that the Stalker is Sarah Lewis. He’s losing it. They’ve got undercover officers set up everywhere at the Pageant. Peter sees someone in the crowd who looks like Sarah and tries to apprehend them, but it’s a red herring. Dan sees everything and approaches Peter who has to reveal all. He assures Dan everything will be fine. Later he sees another person who looks like the Stalker and starts to follow them, but Clare radios him to head somewhere else.
Colleen discovers the Pageant banners been spelt wrongly’. She demands it be changed. The kids have to go fix it. Ric’s tentative with Cassie after her hot and cold behaviour. He still thinks something’s wrong, despite Matilda’s assurances to the contrary. A bubbly Cassie says everything’s fine; are they friends again? A bemused Ric has no choice but to say yes. But when Cassie overhears Sally singing that same lullaby to baby Pippa, she suddenly freezes. Ric clocks it, but again she denies any problem. Later on we find Cassie on the beach hearing that same lullaby and getting flashes of herself as a 12-year-old – a look of fear on her face…a dark shadow cast over her. What secret is Cassie hiding?
The pageant gets underway and the competition is fierce…mainly between Colleen and Joy! Cassie’s cooked a mean Pavlova and looks incredible in her swimsuit. Tasha recites a wonderful poem and goes off in the evening wear section. It looks like it’s between Cassie and Tasha. The judges retire to make their decision… Meanwhile Peter finds a note from the Stalker which reads, “You almost got me…” etc. It was the Stalker he saw before! Peter blames Clare for calling him away, but Clare thinks he’s losing his perspective. Peter’s more determined than ever to catch the stalker.
Robbie confronts Tasha: when was she going to tell him? Tasha is about to respond, but Colleen interrupts. At the end of the pageant Robbie intends to ask Tasha to stay, but his anger at her treatment builds to the point that he tells her that leaving might be the right thing! Tasha has to head off for the winner’s announcement, leaving many things unsaid and Robbie standing alone, looking sad and pathetic in his donut costume…
