Extended Summary
Cassie sits by Joy’s bed – her condition unchanged. Ric feels powerless to help her. Flynn explains that any operation could be fatal. Joy will never recover. Her next of kin will be contacted and with Cassie they will decide whether to turn off the life-support.
Jesse is lost in a reverie after Josie’s departure. Martha tries to comfort him but he pulls away. Morag calls him on it – it’s okay to be affected. Jesse says the weird thing is how little he’s been affected. It means he must be getting over it and it’s time to move on.
Cassie wants to stay with Joy all night, but Flynn and Sally convince her to come home. Ric worries he’s not giving her enough support. Flynn convinces him otherwise. At breakfast, Cassie’s told her Uncle Ben’s coming to make a decision on Joy. She reacts sharply. Everyone thinks it’s about turning off life-support, but it’s the thought of seeing Uncle Ben. Ric quizzes her on her reaction and she denies there’s a problem. When Ben arrives, he calls her “Angel”, and she winces…clearly there is a problem.
Hayley and Scott are still having trouble getting time alone. Hayley comes up with an idea of a romantic day alone. She approaches Sally to book a van. Sally asks jokingly if she’s interested in babysitting Pippa. Hayley says she’d love to. Scott’s surprised when he turns up to find baby Pippa has joined them, but as long as he gets to be with Hayley alone, he’s happy. He moves into a kiss just as Pippa starts to cry. Famous last words…
It looks like Martha is going to stay in the Bay for a while, but Alf’s still having trouble reconciling how close she and Jesse are becoming. Jesse pulls up Martha on her flirting. If something was to happen, it would be a rebound thing. Martha says she doesn’t mind being his rebound girl. She kisses him. Jesse kisses her back. He says their tryst will have to be secret or Alf won’t be happy. Martha agrees.
Hayley’s efforts to calm baby Pippa are proving fruitless. She’s upset because she thinks it means she’d be a hopeless mum. Scott convinces her otherwise and just as she’s pulling him in for a kiss…Sally comes home! Their attempt at a day of privacy has once again been foiled. Scott thinks maybe this is what the Tarot card reader was talking about.
Ben needs time to think before he can come to a decision about Joy. Cassie is uncomfortable in his presence which makes Ric curious. Cassie is sitting when we hear the same lullaby and flashback to her as a 12-year-old. Ben stands at her doorway watching her sing. He moves slowly into the room…Cassie’s memory is broken by Ben’s touch – it’s time to go home. As she walks down the corridor, led by her uncle, she glances back at Ric who smiles at her as she goes, unaware of the secret she’s hiding… Back at the Beach house, Hayley arrives home, checks no-one is around and pulls out a paper bag. She opens the bag and pulls out a pregnancy test….
