Extended Summary
Kim tells Zoe that Hayley’s baby could be his and Zoe rips into him, slaps him and storms off. Kim goes and pleads with her to talk to him. This hasn’t changed the way he feels about her. But Zoe says she’s only told one other person she loved them, and they died, so she doesn’t want to be hurt again. It’s over. Kim’s crushed.
Hayley’s apologises profusely to Scott, but he wants her to stop talking and just go. He needs time to think. Scott offloads his worries to Alf. What if it’s not his kid? Alf thinks it shouldn’t make a difference to the way he feels about Hayley? Scott goes to Hayley and says he’s not so annoyed that she slept with Kim, but that she didn’t tell him straight away the baby might be his. Despite that – he still loves her. Hayley’s relieved.
Peter’s got no new leads on the Stalker since the Miss Groper Pageant, but Clare’s done a psychological profile on the Stalker and discovered their motivation is about power, if the town lives in fear, they’ve got power. The Stalker’s targeting Peter because he’s their biggest obstacle. Peter wonders about revenge as a motivation – for what happened to Sarah Lewis. Clare doesn’t want to hear it.
Hayley, Kim and Scott go for an appointment with Flynn about the baby. They bump into Zoe. Hayley tries to speak to her, but Zoe completely freezes her out. Flynn tells the trio they can get a test to determine the baby’s father pretty much straight away. They agree to do it and then head off to the Diner to wait in nervous anticipation. Zoe bails them up and rips into Hayley. It’s the end of a friendship.
Jesse and Martha are going great guns, but Alf still doesn’t know about it. Jesse has to tread a fine line to keep the relationship secret.
Scott and Hayley are sorry to hear about Kim’s break-up with Zoe, but Kim knows he’s to blame. Hayley’s worried Scott will walk if the baby’s Kim’s. He wants to know if Hayley will go back with Kim. Hayley assures him she won’t. Scott assures her he’ll stay. He decides to take her away for her birthday celebration, even if it means missing Robbie’s 18th. Hayley can’t believe the support he’s giving her. They share a passionate kiss.
The autopsy report from Sarah’s death shows inconsistencies. Peter thinks they need to exhume the body. Clare thinks he’s lost it, but when she’s gone, Peter rings the Superintendent for approval, who in turn rings Clare to find out what’s going on. Clare is furious Peter went behind her back. She drives him back to the station and as they’re arguing in the car, Clare turns a corner and finds the brakes aren’t working – they’ve been tampered with. She drives off the edge of the road and crashes. Will they survive?
