Flynn’s emotional torment leads him to make a life threatening decision. The Holden family settle in to Summer Bay. But what shocking secret are they hiding?
Extended Summary
Anxious after his disturbing dream, Flynn wants to be discharged, but Dr Free reminds him that he’s just had his spleen removed and there’s still a risk of infection. Flynn tries to persuade Sally that he knows better than Dr.Free and would be okay at home, but she’s not convinced.
The Holden boys begin to unpack some boxes in the house. A tray of muffins in hand, Beth leads a reluctant Matilda towards the Holden’s house. Matilda and Luc are instantly taken with each other but hide their eye contact, shyly. Beth asks Tony about their mother and he explains that his wife actually died quite a while ago – it’s just “the boys” now.
At the Surf Club, Martha is bemoaning Jack because of the speeding ticket he gave her when the Holdens come in for a drink. Tony picks up on Martha’s irritation, but Jack explains (with a smile) it’s him Martha doesn’t like. Tony fills Alf in on some introductory details – Tony is starting at school tomorrow as the new PE teacher; Lucas starting in Year 10 and Jack’s a constable at the local cop shop. Alf apologises for Martha’s cool demeanour – but Jack is not fussed, he’s more amused than anything else. (he likes her spunk!)
…Flynn continues to chase Sally, who stops, and kneels down by something. Flynn comes up to her – why didn’t you answer me?! Then, Flynn sees what Sally’s kneeled down next to – a grave stone, in the middle of the bushland, with the name – Flynn Saunders on it! Flynn wakes with a start, breathing heavily, shaking and sweating. He buzzes for a nurse, worked up, and orders her to get him the discharge papers – now!
The power is out at the Holdens’ and Jack is surprised to see the local electrician is – Martha!
Jack hands Martha the screwdriver and she climbs up the ladder – it wobbles a bit and Jack goes to hold it. Martha is outraged thinking that he’s trying to cop a look up her skirt! As she vents her fury, she loses her balance and falls from the ladder. Jack catches her, but she leaps out of his arms and Jack can’t help but smile – he really likes this chick.
Flynn arrives home and Sally’s concerned about his condition – she thought Dr Free said he wasn’t ready to come home? Flynn covers and says that Dr Free changed her mind. Despite Flynn’s reassurance, Sally is troubled. She goes to make him a drink and Flynn collapses in pain. At the hospital, Flynn says he’s sorry…but Sally doesn’t want to hear an apology, she wants to know what’s going on? Flynn explains he’s had bad dreams since the operation. He wanted to get out of the hospital because he thought it was the cause. Sally can see how affected Flynn has been by these nightmares and does her best to reassure him – you’re fine, the dream meant nothing, you’re okay… A hug between them as Flynn finds comfort in Sally’s arms.
The boys tease Tony about Beth, but the laughter breaks when the phone rings. They all freeze and stare at the phone. Tony wants to answer it, but Jack says no… Eventually, it stops. They’re all unsettled by it and Tony tells them to keep eating. Until, the phone starts ringing again. Tony’s had enough of this – he answers, listens and then screams down the phone to leave them alone… He hangs up and Jack turns to him, stating sadly that they are never going to escape this! Tony doesn’t answer. They clearly have a big skeleton in the closet, but what is it?
