Extended Summary
Alf’s family and friends are in shock following the news that Alf has been found guilty and sent to jail…
…But the reality sets in for Alf who is led to his jail cell – his worst nightmare is coming true.
Morag is stunned. Alf should never have received such a hefty sentence, but reassures the others she will do everything in her power to appeal the decision. Ric becomes increasingly angry – first he loses Flynn and now Alf. He doesn’t care if he winds up in trouble with the cops, he is going to make Josh pay for what he’s done and races out of the room with fire in his belly. All hell breaks loose in the Diner when Ric finally hunts down his man. Josh is quick to remind Ric he will press charges if Ric assaults him. Ric doesn’t care he pushes Josh over and is about to lay into him but Irene and Colleen calm him down before it gets any worse.
Martha, Ric and Morag visit Alf in jail but despite all efforts to remain positive in front of Alf, he can see straight through their fears. They are surprised when Alf requests to see Sally. She does as he wishes but waits nervously – why is the visit so urgent? Alf has brought her there to apologise – he allowed himself to be fooled by Josh, and will not be around to fulfil his promise to Flynn to look after Sally and the kids. Alf vows if it’s the last thing he ever does – he will make Josh pay for this. There is a venom in his voice that leaves Sally disconcerted. Alf wants Martha to move in and Sally agrees, if it would make him feel better. A tender moment between the two as Sally’s heart goes out to her friend.
Josh arrives at Amanda’s apartment, smiling like a Cheshire cat. Things obviously went well at court! But Amanda is shocked when she learns that Alf has been sent to jail for 9 months and Josh is responsible (given his connection with Judge Gilroy)! Amanda turns the conversation to Graham and the discovery that his money is tied up in long term deposit and it won’t be hers for at least another 3 months (as per the post-nuptial agreement). Josh insists they can’t wait that long for the money and pushes Amanda to go and play the grieving wife at the hospital. Beth is irate when she comes face to face with Amanda at Graham’s bedside. She is disgusted that his own ‘wife’ hasn’t got the decency to get Graham his own pyjamas or other comforts to maintain his dignity. Beth storms out, leaving Amanda feeling guilty. After all, she is responsible for Graham’s condition. Back at home – Amanda is alarmed by the rattle of keys in the door. She is shocked as Beth barges in to collect some of her Dad’s belongings – seeing as though Amanda can’t take them to him. Amanda desperately tries to get Beth to leave…but it’s too late…Josh appears to see what the commotion is – wrapped in a towel! Busted! Beth is disgusted and her suspicions of Amanda and Josh ‘getting it on’ are confirmed.
Beth is furious, as she updates the family on the latest revelation. Beth entertains the idea of switching Graham’s life support off – it’s what he’d want. The family are divided but not all against the idea but Tony is the voice of reason and convinces them they can’t do that. Beth later visits Graham in hospital. She is thankful for the time they’ve spent together the last year and as she fights back the tears she tells her Dad how much she loves him. In an ominous way, it sounds like a goodbye…
Beth is withdrawn when she returns home – Kit and Mattie offering their support. Robbie returns home just as the phone rings. Tony’s face falls as he receives the message…Graham’s life support has been turned off…he’s gone…Stunned looks all around…is one of them a murderer??
